I have never heard of Keppra having this side-effect. I would call your neurologist and ask if this is normal for some people, and if so- how should you deal with it. It doesn't sound like thats a good side-effect to be dealing with.
I take Keppra XR 3000mg a day and never had troubles like that. I only noticed being tired, really tired for the first two weeks.

You might read the paper that comes with your prescription- the guide or medication insert. There is usually a list on it with side-effects and another part for serious side-effects and also one for side-effects that are common and go away over time when starting keppra.

Please take care.

i only seem to notice it when im riding my motorcycle. and havent noticed it for a couple days.

Lamictal can sometimes cause joint pain, but I haven't heard of it with Keppra.

Keppra can affect appetite, and some people lose weight on it.

I also take Keppra-3000 mg./day and haven't lost any weight while taking it, although I did lose weight while taking just Topamax years ago. I haven't experienced any joint pain while taking it. If the pain persists, please call your dr.

I had a look on my side-effect sheet that came with my meds, and joint pain is on there. You should get it checked out anyway.

Oh yeah - and if anything, keppra is increasing my appetite lol. Not good when i'm trying to lose weight lol.

vbi only seemed to feel it when riding my bike. not much more. in fact i worked and rode all day yesterday and didnt feel anything so maby im over that part.

i was tired for a while at first. slep for 15 hours straight once or twice

Yes, I lost weight on Keppra and Lamictal. I find that besides having no appetite I just never "remembered" to eat. Actually I lost weight on all seizure meds and even after surgery when I had steriods I lost a ton of weight. They took me off Lamictal early after surgery due to weight loss since I ended up below 90 lbs. Be careful with the weight loss as I know in the beginning I was delighted to lose a few pounds but I was not happy looking anorexic and there seemed to be nothing I could do to control the weight loss except stop the meds.

i sure wish that was my case. iv got a whole small person to lose before i could begin to look axarexic

Me too birddseedd :P

I'm learning to ignore my constantly rumbly tummy lol.

For those that have the side effect of making your joints hurt, how long does this last?
I was one of the first in the USA to be put on Keppra, some 12 years ago. And while my initial daily amount has come down from 3000mg to 2000mg, I still note that it has side effects. Except for the "creaking" of joints that happens pretty much to everybody when aging begins, I notice only sleepiness. Keppra definitely brings that on in a majority of users. When I'm able to sneak in an afternoon nap, boy I do so! And no longer am I guilty about it. Keppra does at times make me a bit dizzy when walking down a crowded New York street, but that's just part of living in this great city! I wouldn't go off Keppra.

Luckily I have never experienced sore joints from Keppra (2,500mgs), just after a seizure :)

I started Keppra about a month ago. It went from 1000mg/day and today it's up to 2500mg/day. I did notice the appetite loss which surprised me and the sleepiness. I seem to get it about 1/2 hour after taking it, morning or evening. My levels still aren't up to where they are supposed to be thats why they just upped it to 2500. It is interesting to see and hear from people with some of the side effects. Hopefully the sore joints for people will eventually go away. Good Luck Folks,

Neil
