Does anyone out there get an aura or some other kind of warning before a tonic-clonic seizure? I've only had 2 seizures and they were 16 years apart, but on both occasions, didn't get any warning immediately prior.

If you've only had 2 seizures 16 years apart it is possible you got an aura of some sort but wasn't aware of what it was yet.

If the seizure even started off weaker & got stronger that can be an aura.

I used to think I just had very light seizures but when I realized that I blank out for part of the seizure I realized what I was feeling was actually the aura.

When I was still in school I would auras before my CPS. I would get a chill up my back, strange smell, feel warm, and finally get nauseous. This would all happen within minutes before my CPS. My CPS lasted for not more than 5 minutes.

I haven't had auras for over 15 years. So I didn't get warnings anymore. When I would have tonic-clonics they came when I was sleeping, so no warnings before.

I have on average 7 complex partial seizures a month and I know there are some semi's thrown in there. Some will lead into a partial and others will stay a semi. Most of the time I just go right into the complex with no warning. I really didn't know what a semi partial was until I joined this web site.

Sometimes my lips might tingle, things don't look right in the room, I get confused about what I'm doing, my body just doesn't feel right, I may have trouble saying words or thinking of them with a few other things thrown in there.

I have a VNS and when I feel a semi partial coming on I use it and the semi will usually go away within a few minutes, not leading into a complex.

My first seizure back in 1993 was tonic-clonic with no aura. After that up until 2007 I would always have an aura which was always good. Now since 07' I no longer get the warning of seizure as my epilepsy worsened. Lucky never have hurt myself too bad after seizure was over.
