My son is 10 and very new to epilepsy. I have been noticing a lot that his eyes dialte. The blacks of his eyes get huge. At first my husband thought I was crazy and it was just low lighting, but he finally agreed with me last night!! Is this normal? Is it a possible warning? Should I call his Dr.?

During a tonic-clonic seizure, the pupils dilate and stay that way even if you shine a light in them. (The normal reaction to that would be that both pupils would constrict). After the seizure, the pupils behave normally.

When his pupils dilate, is your son otherwise okay? No noticeable seizure symptoms? No heart racing, or other sign of stress? Do his pupils behave normally most of the time? If so, than he should be fine. Has he had his vision checked recently?

Not a single other symptom. It is weird!! He does wear glasses so he frequently gets his eyes examed. I called his Dr and he wants to log it and his behavior everytine we notice it. We see him in June so he asked that we bring it then. Hopefully it is nothing!!!!
