My daughter may be having some sort of reaction to her lamictal since they upped the dosage. She has some sores in her mouth. We have an appointment with primary care doctor for them to determine if it is a reaction or not. If it is then they will take her off and put her on adavan (incorrect spelling im sure) until its out of her system. I was warned that this may cause status seizures. This scares me. I hate this crap!!! Ill update after the appointment.

I had the sores develope two to three days after I started it. I didnt know what they were, til they got worse when the dose increased. I was told I was having an allergic reaction to the medication and needed off ASAP. Once taken off, it all cleared up within days. I hope everything turns out alright!

Just got home from the doctors and thankfully the sores are viral. I was really worried that we would have to start from square one. Im not handling this all that well in the first place and Im not sure how much more I can take right now. Hopefully I can get myself under control before the next thing happens. She was scared that it was a reaction as well and felt for the first time that she wanted to stay on the lamictal. I just picked up the diastat. Im not sure if i will be able to use it. She is 13 and taller then me. Not sure If im strong enough to even get her pants off so I decided that I will not wait for the seizure to last 5 minutes or wait for a second one. I will just call 911 at the first sign of a seizure. If she is fine when the paramedics get here then great but if not then they will be there if something goes wrong. Does that sound paranoid? I cant help it. Its the only thing that makes sense to me right now.

Thank you for the support. Im so glad I have this place to come when I need people to confide in. This place is so wonderful with wonderful god sent people in it. :)

No, it doesn't sound paranoid. I think until you have a good sense of how her seizures play out, that makes sense. Make sure the EMTs know that she has a history of seizures.

You might also ask her doctors about using a nasal spray instead of the rectal diastat. See http://intranasal.net/SeizureRx/

I hope things improve; it's difficult to go on-and-off meds, be a pin cushion, adjust to meds, and try to live life at the same time. It's also difficult to watch a person with epilepsy if you are caregiving (that's what my Mom tells me). She says that it pains her. Ativan 2 mg in the butt has always worked for me during grand mal seizures. :hugs:
