Here is an alternative treatment option for autism/seizures...it still requires a prescription:

Google Respen-A and QEEG to see positive changes to QEEG after being on Respen-A for several weeks (sorry, can't post attachments...someone help, please)

Check out the website respen-a.com for more information on what it is and how it works.

My son started using it about 3 weeks ago. He is MAO-A +/+ so he should benefit from this product. I think I am seeing less absence seizures even though we decreased his Depakote (due to more irritability, less talking, etc). I am in the process of tweaking his supplements and getting a feel for how much of the Respen-A patch needs to be applied per day...1/2 seems best at this point.

He is sick with a fever now so things are a little off...I will try to remember to update you when things stabilize.

Hootie, I would be very careful with homeopathic remedies -- there just doesn't seem to be enough evidence that they work consistently, and they can be very expensive. Proceed with caution -- and let us know how it works for you and your son.

I have had much more success/benefits and little to no side effects with homeopathic remedies. Can't say that for prescription drugs...

Remedies are NOT expensive...don't know where you received that information. I bought a kit with 100 remedies plus a book for about $150 dollars. This was about 6 years ago. I still have this kit and it will last indefinitely. If I need to replace one of the vials because I use up the pellets, they are less than $4 each. I usually try to order in batches to save on shipping. If one does not have a kit, many of the common remedies can be found at your local health food store for about $8.

When I talk to my homeopath about once a month (unless an acute situation comes up), it only costs $45 total to get recommendations for three members of my family ($15 each...cheap!). He may or may not charge me for acutes and if he does charge me, he only charges once ($15) for the acute situation even if I speak with him a few times.

The Respen-A is expensive because it is made from a prescription. I think I paid $80 for it (plus shipping). This is a one month prescription, but it will last me two months because he seems to do better on 1/2 disc.

They are working on a new formulation that will contain two potencies of the drug-4X and 12C. Parents that have had their children on the original 4X formula are commenting that the new formula is working even better. Right now my son is using the 4X formula since he just started using it. I like that it does seem to be controlling my son's seizures despite the decrease in Depakote (250mg twice a day). The depakote was causing TONS of side effects (irritable, less talking, still having seizures, got kicked out of school twice...this NEVER happened before), especially at the 250 mg three times a day dose.

I will keep you updated as time goes on.

If we compared the death rates caused by Western medicine, drugs, etc to that of alternative medicine I wonder which one would "win".

Just because drugs are approved by the FDA does not mean they are safe (and the list of side effects is numbing...many times worse than what you already have.

Don't get me wrong...sometimes I do resort to giving antibiotics, etc...but this is a LAST RESORT after giving homeopathy a spin. Usually my kids get better before I ever have to seek an MD or administer drugs.

I am glad you do use that last resort though. many people haven't & that was the problem.

As for who has the lower death rate, I think that would depend if you just counted the straight numbers or counted deaths per user.

Also, I have to agree that it isn't usually the homeopathy that causes deaths, it's the avoidance of western medicine.

Google death rate from prescription drugs...one article says over 100,000 per year. This is from known side effects and does not include errors in prescribing, etc.!

UGH!

I think side effects are the rule, not the exception--at least with my sensitive family!

Good google. The only article that cited anyone I would personally trust was the CDC with 33,000. Many gave statistics without citing any source & those make me very suspicious.

As I said before, I'm sure if you use the statistics as a percentage of users died, you'd see a more accurate depiction of how safe/dangerous either is.
