Just thought I would check to see if anyone is familiar with RNS. I am about to the max on Keppra & Aptiom, and the seizures keep coming.
I finally got in to see an epileptologist for the first time last week & was told people have been having pretty good results with this. It was approved for use in 2013. I guess it is a unit about the size of your thumb that is implanted in the skull with up to 2 leads that are placed at the points of origin of the seizures. If your seizures originate in more than 2 places I guess you are not a candidate for this.
Sounds pretty damn scary but the more I read about it the more positive it sounds. Was told there was about an 80% success rate with seizure control.
I still have to do the 5 day video EEG to see if I am even a candidate for this. Hook me up to house current and see which way I twitch, rattle the chicken bones & throw em in the air.
Anyway just wondering if anybody out there knows anything and could fill in the blanks for me. Thanks
Ed

Hey folks
Thanks for the response & the links. appreciate that.
Nakamova, I agree, I think my doc is being a bit optimistic with the 80%, although some of the newer data is saying somewhere between 60% & 70%. I tried using the search here but all that would come up was my message. dont know what I was doing wrong, probably should have been using NeuroPace.
Thanks again
Ed

Hello Karen
Hope the testing all comes out the way you need it to. Have you heard anything new about the RNS?
Ed

Yes, actually my doctor told me they are starting to do studies using multiple neuropace in order to control more focal points.
