I have noticed that my nocturnal seizure activity increases in the fall and early spring. I will generally go all summer long without an event unless I get overly stressed out about something.

I understand sunshine affects seratonin levels and wonder if the lack of full spectrum sun causes enough of a drop to lower my seizure threshold. I am really wondering if a SAD light would be useful? They now make them with non-flicker ballasts too.

I have had a very challenging week with seizures and sleep disturbances every night. Tuesday and Wednesday the sun was shining and I took time to spend 30 minutes out in the cold, but sunny garden. No seizures, no sinking feeling at bedtime.

Today was another dreary lake effect snow day and that will be the case for another 5 days.

I upped my magnesium so I am getting 500mg too.

I found this link an interesting read, http://dogtorj.tripod.com/id60.html
He seems to be a vet though, so what are your thoughts?

Well, another night with only 2 disturbances. Not seizures as I am aware of them, just waking up and then easily back to sleep.

I changed a few light bulbs to clear full spectrum light. WOW! What a difference in light levels in the few rooms I tried. They are not therapy level lights, you need a special lamp for those, but the light improvement was pretty darn amazing. The bulbs contain neodymium, filter out the yellow, and increase the blue range. Doing a bit of research on SAD lights, they are moving towards a blue spectrum light at ranges of 5000-10,000 lux. Of course these little household bulbs don't come anywhere near that level!

I did find at a big box home improvement store a full-spectrum lamp with a 2500 lux flourescent bulb. I didn't buy it because I didn't know if it was a flicker free ballast. I assumed not as it wasn't marked as such. Although the box indicated to go out to the same website I had done my research on to find a replacement bulb? I guess a few phone calls will address my concerns.

Just touching base with this topic. I eventually went out and bought that light I had seen and am using it in the evenings while on the computer. The ballast is non-flicker.

I upped the Magnesium too.

I added 3mg. melatonin.

The past two nights I have been able to get down sleep, deep sleep. I still feel the herky-jerkys as I dose off, but my head isn't giving me that 'falling feeling.' Once I am asleep...I am needing the alarm clock to get up. :)

It's really good for me to get outside everyday. To walk and see people. I go shopping or to my corner Starbucks and then come home, do what I need to do here and I feel much better. Otherwise I can really get down and deppressed about things and have more seizures.I would love to have one of those lamps here in WA during the winter. That would be a blessing.

I wake up to neon lights, one with a warm glow & one with a cool glow to avoid SAD.

I know neon provokes seizures in some people but try waking up to your full spectrum lights to see if it makes a difference in your seizures.
