its probably a question that cant be answered, but how come some people can have 1 seizure then go for like months a year without another, is it too do with severity?, ive probably had around 40-50 since december, what are your frequencys?

Right now I'm having anywhere from 1 to 6-7 a day depending on if they cluster. Yesterday I had 3 today i've already had 1 but a couple of weeks ago I went the whole day with out one. There is no rhyme or reason to it. It is just frustrates me to death!

I agree there very frustrating, like mine sometimes ill have one t/c or ill cluster and have anywhere up too 10, but i just thought i was odd :D

Nope I'm the odd one. I went to the office yesterday. I usually work from home. I had a partial at work yesterday. My right arm went straight up in the air then my fingers were all over the place. My head turned to the right then my tongue and lips gets into the act. I sit in a cubical. I can only imagine what the girl on the other side of me was thinking. Thank god they only last about a minute or less. So there you go that is as odd as odd gets!

Before I had surgery I had complex partial seizures and I may have had 4-5 a month and then go a month with out one. For me it was all based on triggers. Mine is stress and I try to do my best to stay out of those kind of situations.

There can be a lot of variation in seizure frequency from person to person. The cause of the seizures, secondary triggers, how the seizures respond to treatment -- those things can all play a role in how often the seizures hit. Seizures can also change and increase over time if they're left untreated, or they can re-surface after a period of remission. Fun.

Our son can go for days or even weeks without a seizure, then suddenly have several tonics or tonic clonics in one day. I think when that happens, it's probably to do with maybe eating the wrong thing (he's on the Ketogenic diet), or maybe when he has one seizure, it'll sorta trigger more. He's had 3 long periods without any seizures (1 1/2 year, 1 year, 1 year) with just a low dose of meds or none, but then they'll start back in, and he'll get bad -- maybe 3 to 9 a day or more sometimes.

Right now we're in a quiet phase and hoping it'll stay that way -- 22 days and counting!!

This is like me more, can go for ages, then lots in one day, few more that week, then none

I usually have about a seizure a week but for me about 2 weeks is pretty good to go without a seizure, sometimes I might go 3. Then like you said - BAM a whole bunch right in a row even two or three a day. This has been going on alot recently.

I don't know if it could be because I've been on a few different meds. I had surgery and had to take meds after that and I also had the flu and I was taking a few meds for that too.

Stress and being upset is a huge trigger for me. My husband and I both know that when these things are going on then a seizure is on it's way. I try not to get worked up about things because I know that I'm going to end up having a seizure but that's easier said than done.

This is so frustrated for both me and my husband!!!!

Hard for those of us where its controlled by stress cant stop stress sometimes life is life and whatever will be will be all can do is try too reduce it!

My first seizure happened(grand mal) and then I went a year without one... then boom had two in 3 months... went another year without one... then had one every few months for about a year or so... and then I had 3 grand mals in a span of a few months... and now it's been 9 months since my last grand mal.

I have JME and have myoclonic jerks everyday but even those have lessened... I think it might be a miracle but this time... I think I'm cured. I've been off medecine (no doctor) for 9 months ever since my last grand mal.

I understand your pain though. I am fortunate to have a very minor case of 'Grand Mal activity.' I've only had myoclonic jerks and grand mals so... yea, I'm very fortunate and in my case I think I'm probably 'through it all.'

I think when your question is answerable epilepsy will be one step closer to a cure! Hopefully it happens. I assume the imbalance of the inhibitory/excitatory neurotransmitters that lead to increased neuronal activity is a reason, but why this occurs in the first place and why it varies is so often unknown. That big black hole inside the cranium.

Medication controls this imbalance for two thirds of epilepsy patients. Maybe the rest of us have different kind(s) of epilepsy/make our brain chemicals differently or we might have some extras. I wish I only read about them and had no first hand experience. Oh well. I have no need to ever take weird drugs. I get wacko experiences naturally.
