My son, 16, was diagnosed with epilepsy a year ago. Thankfully, he has only had four seizures, one of which was this week. My question...is he more susceptible to another seizure soon after he has one? We seem to make it four months between seizures...just when I am getting a little less worried about another one.

Right now, a few days after he has had one, I am watching his every move and keeping track of him like I am a prison warden. I know this is just the mother in me being worried. Is it valid?

Mine seemed to happen if my medication metabolized faster than usually. Just make sure he's eating good proper meals, taking meds on time and a good sleep schedule. Sometimes I would have little "after shocks" but not as bad as the first. Like the brain is settling back down.

my seizures are the same. i usually only make it to three months seizure free, then i'll have another one. if you are really worried about this then it may be best to take him to a doctor and ask about upping his medication

The answer to your question is not straight forward, he may or may not be susceptible to another seizure. Everybody is different, more than likely not but this is not a given. As Katie said he might get an "after shock" as you said you just need to watch him.

Thank you for the responses. We did increase his medication this time as the seizure was different and occurred during a different time than the others. He is very good about taking his med. on time, and he gets his sleep except those nights that the melatonin doesn't kick in, which is what happened this last time. It is just good to have a place to bounce these questions off of others who understand.
