Well, I think its fairly obvious now that Im only on 1 seizure medication, that if i dont get enough sleep, I will have seizures :( Last night, I felt tired, but just couldnt fall asleep. Ive been fighting what I think is a sinus infection for at least two weeks now. Lots of pain in my ears, tons of draining, etc. I dont want to go into full details and make someone get sick!

But last night I was so tired, but for some reason, i tossed and turned all night long! I remember getting this heavy feeling in my left arm, kind of like when your arm goes numb, like if you were laying on your arm... that kind of feeling. Then my heart started to pick up, and I felt sick to my stomach. I remember sitting up, and taking my left hand to try to grab anything I could to focus on trying to get this feeling to go away. At that time, my upper body started to turn to the right. I knew right then it was a seizure starting. I fought it off the best I could, and knew when the feeling went away what took place. I so badly wanted to call my mom, but it was well into the night, after 2AM, and she had to get up for work early this morning. So I decided to try to sleep it off and see if i felt better. Luckly, I felt really tired afterwords and finally went to sleep. I was so tired, I woke up to get the kids going for school, and my husband luckly didnt have to go into work til 8am, so he took the kids for me, and I layed back down til 11:30am! Even then, I had to tell myself to get up! Our youngest had woken up earlier and came crawling into bed with me. I think it best to say that with having no back up medication, ( I was on carbatrol along with keppra for years) and now only being on Keppra, if I dont get enough sleep, the seizures will come on.

One thing I was trying to look up, was if being sick, can stress your body out, along with the lack of sleep, would that increase your chances of having a seizure? :ponder:

Oh gosh, I think any extra stress your bodies under could lower your seizure threshold.

I'm sorry that happened. ***hugs***

I know my sleep problems and seizures are affected by solar/geomagnetic activity. I had a bad night that night too - sweats, tossing and turning, getting up to use the bathroom over and over again. Read this concerning January 18th...

SOLAR PROMINENCE: Today, a network of plasma-filled magnetic filaments is rising over the sun's northwestern limb...Any instability in the magnetic thicket of this prominence could produce a spectacular eruption framed by the black of space over the sun's horizon.

Whenever magnetic filaments appear on the sun, my brain, sleep patterns, everything - all go haywire. You might want to start checking that website daily to see if you notice anything.

I still have to take 3000 mgs.Keppra along with 250 mgs.Topamax in order to keep my seizures at bay. Plus, keep my VNS in check. Before I had the VNS, I would on occasion have nocturnal seizures as well. I was married back then and my husband is a pilot, so when he was out on a trip and I was alone with the kids, sometimes the stress and lack of sleep brought on more seizures. My son also had a bad case of asthma, so that added a lot of stress, also. Stress can definitely bring on seizures!

Thanks for the replies! :)

My mom thinks mixed in with the stress, having been sick the past couple of weeks, and then getting no sleep is what caused it all to happen. I did get a better night's sleep last night though. I have to get myself into a good pattern of going to sleep no later than 10pm. Which would give me a good almost 9 hours of sleep. Im finding the more sleep I get, the better I feel. I just have to tell myself to stop watching tv and go to sleep! :)

I am so sorry that you are having some problems. I agree with everyone else though....sickness and added stress are always triggers for me. I tuck myself in every night by 9:30, which is sooo early, but if I don't, then I will have seizures. I get up at 5:30am for work, so that combination seems to work the best. Fingers crossed that you are feeling better now :)

Whoa! I woke up a bunch of times that night, too. Way more than usual.
No seizures, though.

Thanks! Ive been trying to get to bed earlier, but I cant seem to fall asleep fast. I toss and turn for hours before Im actually sleeping. Im hoping my sleeping pattern changes and I can start to have better nights!
