im in denial and need some advice please. i have been off keppra 2 month now and have been seizure free, I have found out by looking at someones post if i did have a seizure i could end up brain damaged. is this true? I have been ok off my meds but im worried if i have a seizure could i end up brain damaged? if i do take my meds im gonna end up bald. Someone please help me I just dont know what to do anymore. any comments would be appreciated.

I've been having seizures 48 years.I wouldn't call myself brain damaged.
The meds are another matter they can slow you down.Dilantin especially that was one that could wipe my memory clean.I've gotten smarter over the years.
I've talked to my neuro about seizures and brain damage and he says there is no proof.

Thanx belinda. i have read a few things and thwy say they cause brain damge. The meds i was in keppra n they made me feel lethargic all the time constantly confused they made me feel worse than wen i did afywr a seizure. As well as many other side affects.

Not to scare you or anything, but my seizures went undiagnosed for so long that my neurologist believes my brain was damaged - I lost long-term memory, not just the typical short-term memory. I also have trouble with math and spelling now. I also have severe OCD and suspect that untreated seizures might somehow have resulted in that.

Most people are fine though, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Idk....If oxygen were decreased long enough due to seizure type?? Would make sense that there could be brain damage...I worry about this with my son, as his seizures are nocturnal....I was going to ask his neuro next time I saw her. I was also thinking about an Emfit or bed seizure alarm...Need to investigate more.

Well....... I have had CP seizures that go into TC's over the years. Went status several times. They tell me I now have a damaged hippocampus. That is where memories are stored in the brain, so I have difficulty remembering and I suffer from aphasia. I think one needs to have suffered many years with seizures before suffering brain damage.

Thanx every1. my seizures happened when i was asleep. I havent been diagnoswd with what tyoe thwy are or what causes them. My dad said tbey last 3 mins if that as i have no recognition of them. I have always had a bad memory but i dno if its wirse jsut cuz am noticing it more. I really dont know what to do. Cuz if i take the meds am gonna end up bald not knkwing where i am and very cinfused. Worse than when i have a seizure. My nwuro is no help really. So yas dont think i should worry too much about damaging my brain? when i had them i was only having 1 a month and simetimes i coukd go months witjout having 1.

I wouldn't worry about extreme cognitive damage.. but a lot of us have memory issues, including myself..

The odds of having very serious damage are slim, I wouldn't worry.

Thanks chris im a natural worrier. Im not as bas as i used to be but i used to be really bad. Thank you chris.

Haha. I say to my husband all the time, "I have brain damage honey". Because he is always saying I just told ya or don't you remember doing that. My brain will NEVER be the same. There is just no storage left in my brain. However, I have made a lifestyle change and invested in pens and booklets to hold information instead. It's actually working better for me and keeps me outta trouble. I have become really good at tracking and recording information. Have to look on the positive side of things which can be difficult some days. lol
