When I was first prescribed Dilantin I was staggering around, super-clumsy, with horrible balance. When I met with the neuro, she realized that I was on way too high a dose, and reduced my meds. So that may be the case for you. Make sure the doc knows about any side effects you are experiencing.

I have tried to call heaps of times to call but I just keep getting blown off which is annoying :/ i am going to see if i can ask the emergency doctor if i can reduce the one that makes me sick. I am very small so it would not surprise me if i am on a too high dose :/ on a positive note i got a good surprise when my whole year 7 class made me cards :D

I was diagnosed with TLE last December. I am 44. I am also a teacher. I teach kids with emotional disturbance, run ins with the police, substance abuse isses, etc. I have to be on my toes all the time. I was on Topamax and all I wanted to do was sing the Smurf theme song. My neuro took me off of it immediately when he saw what it was doing to me. I am now on Lamotrigine. I have very few side effects (mostly balance is slightly off). I also have some of the memory issues associated with TLE. However, he and I do not think the lamotrigine is working. I am still having seizures. I should have the results of a levels test next week.

I haven't had a seizure in class ... so far. For teaching, I am making some changes in how I do things. I have trusted students help me grade. I am having them do more group work; they seem to do better and less work for me. I set boundaries and expectations early and enforce them consistantly. I try to write the assignments for the week on the board. That helps me remember what I am doing and the students know what to expect.

Got a call from my specialist. I go in for my Video telemetry in a few weeks which is good to know the date. I go back to work on Tuesday. I actually love working and hate when they make me have time off. my meds were recorded wrong in the hospital so they have reduced them a little :) i feel less spacey. I do not even remember the seizures i have talked about on this thread :/ atleast i am feeling heaps better. A little druggy and i keep having little simple partials but im happy that i may make progress soon. They want to remove the suspected diagnosis YAY and hopefully a better medicine routine. I have had 1 seizure in front of a student and we both laughed it off thank goodness. Only my arm suddenly dropped and i was out for a second :) but i usually have them during sleep and around naps

It's good to hear that you are feeling better.

First off, I hope your EEG goes well! When it comes to work, I know how you feel. I've had three seizures at work in the past two months and I always get that feeling that I'm a "liability" to them.

When it actually comes to seizures when waking up, although I don't think I have seizures when I wake up, when I had my 72 ambulatory EEG, my neurologist said I had very high activity going on during the waking hours.
