Although the VNS implant does not stop/lessen all seizures, has anyone continued to have seizures on a regular basis?
Had several ER visits and only answer given was: "breakthrough seizure". Settings changed before and battery is good....so I'm just curious why they keep occuring. Frustrating!
 
Sorry you are still experiencing seizures. VNS isn't a magic cure. Much like AEDs, VNS might help, worsen or do nothing appreciable for seizure control. I'd think it is a good sign if it has lessened seizure frequency though.
 
I got my first VNS in 2007. Depending on the settings of VNS will depend on how long the battery lasts and I'm on my third now. I'm also taking epilepsy medicine and I got an RNS about a year ago.

When I got my first VNS my seizures decreased drastically and they weren't as bad. Now on average I have around 7 seizures a month. Many of them I don't know that I've had but my RNS picks them up.

I might have cluster seizures too - a lot happening in a short time, usually within a day or two. This doesn't happen that often though.

I do agree with Bernard on this one. The VNS isn't a magic cure but it is one device that can be combined with the right medication to find a better maintenance of seizure activity.

Every person is different with his or her case so it is a situation that needs special care and very close focus put toward as the VNS device and right medication is only the beginning to your journey when working with this device.

I am using the VNS device and the DBS device to manage my case.
