the term epilepsy means sezuires wich can be caused by many different things and I was wondering if anyone here has figured out theyre sezuires are casued by a sleep condition and if so how long did it take yore doctor to figure that out? And has treatment stopped the sezuire activity? what about meds anyone stopped meds succesfully (my objective) ALSO i feel like me and countless others (maybe you) have this problem instead of the unexplained cause take meds forever, how many of you might snore enough to stop breathing and take it for granite or granted wichever lol

Gosh, I wish I could help! My sons (4 yrs old) seizures are tonic clonic frontal absence. He has a sleep study scheduled for Feb 25th. In the past few months, he has also started with hallucinations prior to bed, and just after waking...Thought it was meds at first, but he's been off for 2 1/2 weeks now, taking a natural approach to see if we can control..will revisit meds if we have to....Concerned that my sons hallucinations could also be the beginning stages of narcolepsy? Not sure if that is seizures disorder sleep related? Maybe someone else out there can help? I will have more info in the next 10 days. Hang in there!

good luck i tried the natural approach after my nuero switched me from dilantin to keppra wich by the i personally wouldnt recommend if its sleep related... it almost killed me and i kept taking it and it happend twice more sezuires that lasted until i got to the er idk how long but i looked like a smurf. So i went without meds for about two weeks Had a sezuire about every 3 or 4 days in the morning and the same time while really dizzy gettin up and through researchi found others on this site and others that have sleep apnea that causes theyre epilepsy.I just wish my doctor would have thought of this ten years ago. but then he woudlnt have gotten his kickdown from big pharma for puttin me on this poison...wich by the way works while it poisins me yay

Last drug my son was on was Keppra...I noticed his frontals increased greatly...He had some serious side effects to, 3rd drug he was on, so I decided due to his young age, try another approach...Sleep study I believe is important. If sleep apnea is an issue as well, I am hoping study will pick up on this (and anything else!), and oxygen will be another natural way in controlling his seizures. I was told by my naturopath, that it woud take 4-6 months (diet/vitamins/natural 'drugs') to see how much control we would have. I am hoping due to his young age, that this will be enough. If not, I will cross that bridge.

Have you had a sleep study done?

I've been wondering the opposite- could sleep apnea be caused by seizures.

I've snored all my life and a sleep study did indeed show moderate sleep apnea.

I've always wondered about this because I thought apnea patients don't get the chance to fall into REM sleep. Yet many have vivid dreams, which I thought were only possible by reaching REM stage. I don't use my cpap but find this dream thing contradictory to what I always thought. I love dreaming nearly every night!

Ive had 3 studies done before I was dx with epilepsy.

I'd say both!...I suppose I will find out soon enough. My son, 4yrs, snores. Not every night...but I'd say 5 out of 6.
