When I first started having complex partials, about 12 years ago, I would only sit and stare or walk around the house doing things. The usual ways that people act during a complex.

Recently, maybe about six months now, my husband said I've been shaking during some of them. He said they aren't strong shakes (like ones that you have during a tonic clonic) but my arms and legs will shake, if I understand him right. I don't fall off the couch shaking or fall on the floor shaking.

Is it normal that you could shake during a complex partial or have these turned into tonic clonics?

The average amount of seizures I have a month (around 7) hasn't changed, only the seizure style.

There's no "normal" with epilepsy :)

Any change in your seizures is worth making a note of and mentioning to your neuro. But if your complex partials aren't longer or more intense than usual, then you are probably okay. Did anything change 6 months ago?

Just some remote/obscure possibilities I thought of for explanations of the shaking not being the seizure itself:
-if the shakes are more like tremors, it could be low BP if this is something you have at times.
-since a complex partial is impaired consciousness but not loss of consciousness, perhaps some bit of your conscious self is kicking in and you are shaking out of fear at having another seizure
-maybe your more conscious self may be trying to get up and move and do something, like run away from the seizure or be busy doing something with your arms (as you have said your CPs often involve you doing something) but physically you're unable to actually do so because of the seizure.

A lot depends on exactly what these shakes look like. Perhaps have your boyfriend videotape them and show them to your doctor.

I've had many TCs that started as CPs. Some were much more distinct than others. Since my 30+ years with E, my seizure type(s) have changed several times.

I guess I worded what I said wrong in the first post. It should have been the usual ways that I act during a seizure. I know everyone is different when it comes to things that you do during a seizure and I'm sure even things can change in the ways that the person themselves with things they do during a seizure.

The seizures themselves have been pretty much the same when it comes to length. The only thing that really been different is the shaking. But I don't think it's a heavy intense shaking.

There really hasn't been any changes in things over the last few months. Everything's been pretty much the same.

I see my neuro in about two weeks so I'm going to tell him about it.

If my husband is able to video me doing it I'll have him try.

I kick and punch in my sleep...sometimes I'll have night sweats...guess I'm doing Tae Bo in my sleep???

But yeah "normal" is an illusion but the shaking is very real...I'm sorry I hope your E gets more under control soon...but for now :hugs:

I shake sometimes during my complex partials. A guy told me my arm was shaking one time, but I only half believed him. When I was in the EMU I had one with shaking and one without shaking. On the video my whole body was moving rhythmically kind of like someone with Parkinson's, almost like rocking or sobbing. It kind of went through my whole body at the same time. The report said my mouth was making clonic movements, and I was making sounds. There was no sound when I watched the video, and I was unaware of it at the time. I would never have guessed. I was conscious. There was a few seconds when I lost contact with my senses, but was still conscious, so I know I almost generalized. The docs didn't know I knew, but that's also what the EEG showed. However, I was shaking the whole time. I'm sure I don't do it with the lighter ones, or at least it's not as noticeable, as the second one on video showed.

I hope you feel better Valerie. :hugs:

I have night sweats very often. I'll wake up soaked in sweat. I used to be able to sleep with a few heavy blankets over me, summer or winter. Now I have to sleep with light blankets on me, sometime just a sheet or even nothing. I don't know if it's epilepsy or med related.

I think I might be having seizures in my sleep but I'm not positive about that. My husband and I don't sleep in the same room. If I am I don't now if I'm shaking, or if I am it's not bad, because the sheets aren't all messed up and pulled off the bed.

I get up at 7 am to feed the cats and take my meds then go back to bed. I woke up on the couch once later in the morning after I'd done this. I don't know if I had the seizure before I fell back asleep (I like to walk around during my seizures) or if I could have had the seizure in my sleep and maybe walked into the living room and laid on the couch.

I take naps in the afternoon and I'll wake up and my husband will tell me that I'd had a seizure. I don't know if I was awake or asleep when I had it.

Yeah we use to sleep in separate rooms too...now we sleep in the same room but on separate beds...but we do cuddle a lot...sometimes I can lay there beside her and fall asleep but eventually I'll have to get up and move...that's if I start getting too fidgety...like I said I'm sometimes a violent sleeper (I think it has something to do with my wtf dreams/ptsd) and the last thing I wanna do is accidentally hurt my wife in my sleep...and fuck sleep walking...wtf man that's some exorcist shit lol...or should I say "paranormal activity"...hah! I just had an Epiphany...maybe life is one big quantum seizure...well maybe at least 4 us :D
