My almost 2yr old did something I think quite strange today. He started walking around with a medium sized torch, turned on, held directly in front of his eye, it was no more than a cm from his eye. To me this was quite odd it was almost as if he couldn't see the light. My older kids have been playing and looked into the light but from an arms length away this seemed really strange to me.
I wasn't sure so put the torch close in front of my eye and was shocked by how bright it was and how I saw spots after having it there for even a second. I know probably not the smartest thing for me to do but wanted to see what my little man was doing.
When he has had his EEG's his eyes have rolled up when they did the strobe light test but very little alteration on his EEG. Nureo said he didn't know why but it might be due to his issue being deep in his brain.
Do you think it is worth letting his Nureo know re the torch light in his eye today?

Sorry forgot to add I am being a bit paranoid as he was doing this only to his left eye and he had a lot of trouble getting the left side of his body to work earlier on, although you can't tell now unless he is tired.
We see his paed and nureo on 25th Feb but before this he has a sleep study and then MRI (both next week), appointments with metabolic speciliasts and specialist paed gastro.

Might just him being a kid I did this as a kid messing around we used too see who could see the most spots kids will do stuff that seem strange too us as adults

Thats what my husband thinksas well but there was just something in the way he was doing it while he was walking around its hard to explain. I said to hubby I might try and video him next time he does it so that I can sit back and watch what he actually does as I know sometimes I do worry to much. Unfortunately though everything I have been a bit unusre about his paed and other specialists once they hveeen footage themselves, have said it's not "usual". I hope this time my husband it right and I am wrong!

Donnajane,

Your the mother and usually a mother sees things a bit differently than others. So if you think it is odd and not right, then trust your instinct and call the neuro. Usually a a mother's instinct is correct.

:agree:
It never hurts to make a note of something that strikes you as unusual; the pediatrician and/or neurologist can let you know if it's significant.

Thanks. I spoke to my optometrist and his GP about it and they both said to make sure I mention it to his Nureo and Paed when he sees them in Feb but more importantly to mention it when he has his MRI on the 18th Jan so they might have a "good" look in that area. My optometrist gave me a test to do with him and my older 2 kids at home and it was really interesting the older 2 both closed their eyes and turned away at first where as our little man just looked at the light. His GP said some kids just like light but she said if you add that with the fact that he stood on hot concrete and screamed until we went and got him off the other day, instead of moving off it himself she said it makes her wonder if there is a bit of an issue with comprehending/sensory issues. On there own they may not be much but when you add them together and put in his history she said its definetly worth looking into.
One thing I did find reassuring was that I was told he can't do himself any harm looking into a normal torch light.
I think I am being more paranoid lately as quite a few times I have said to his speacialits how great it is he is doing something ie right handed at 7months and more recently doing lots of crawling and using all 4's for the first time (he has been walking for 6 or 7 months). On these times and others I have been told it was not what he should be doing, ie he shouldn't be right handed so young, that's how we found out he had an issue with not using his left side, and more recently with the crawling his Paed pointed out he shouldn't be crawling very much any more and definetly not every day for longer periods, she was worried re periods of regression especially after what she saw him do in her office just before Christmas.
Sorry for the long post. I appreciate you taking the time to read and the responses you gave above.

You are so right about this, but I often have to remind myself of it.
