Hi there, Im new to this forum and wanted to get some advice on my situation. First let me give you a little background on my epilepsy.

I was diagnosed with Petit Mal Epilepsy when I was in grade 2, Im 33 years old now. I have not gone a year seizure free, therefore I do not have my licence. I've lived with this my whole life. I am currently on Keppra.

I will admit that I am not exactly the best at taking my meds, however I recently started taking them everyday like I am supposed to in hopes that I will get them under control. I was doing well. I was taking my dosage in the am and my dosage in the evening and I was going without seizures. Then this happened....

On April 10th, I came down with the flu. I was vomitting so I chose not to take my pills that night and the next two days because I was afraid Id just get sick and that it would be a waste of medication (stupid I know) I did however start taking them again on Monday April 13th but have been having seizures ever since. I have gone times in the past when I would forget to take my pills and then as soon as I had seizures i would remember and take my dosage and by the next day I would have my seizures under control.

It worries me now because like I said Ive been taking my meds for almost 2 weeks now and I'm still having the odd seizure here and there. Im not sure if i should go see my neurologist or if I should just wait and keep taking my meds and see if that helps. I don't have any headaches or anything that could cause any problems, just the seizures here and there. I have petit mal epilepsy so Im not convulsing otherwise I would be at a hospital pronto. Its so hard to get into my neurologist and I think I'd have to be referred by my family doctor because I haven't been to my neurologist in a while. Is this worth being referred or am I just being paranoid?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should probably call your neuro and let him know what's happening.

Are you taking your meds at your regular time schedule? If you aren't then this could be what's bringing on the seizures.

Were you taking any type of medicine for the flu? There have been a few times when I've been on another med for something and it caused me to have seizures. I had to wait for the other med to get out of my system before my seizures stopped.

There were a few times that I'd thrown up my meds because I'd been sick but luckily I didn't have any seizures.

no i haven't taken any meds for the flu. I try to take my meds at the same times every day and usually in the mornings I take them at the same time its mostly nights and weekends that may vary in times.

Most people have some sort of alarm to make sure they take their meds on time. I have one on my cell phone and that's the same thing that many other people use too. If it wasn't for that I know I would forget to take my meds a lot.

Not taking your meds at the right time, or forgetting to take them, can deal a lot with causing seizures.

It might be that taking your medication regularly for only 2 weeks has not been enough time to bring the seizures under control. It can take several weeks for the body to adapt to medication, but since you have been taking it on-again off-again in the past I'm not sure how well this "rule" would apply to you. I would suggest an appointment with a neurologist, say you are ready to be committed to taking your medication on a regular schedule (assuming you are) and you want some advice on how to begin this process.
