Can simple partial seizures turn into generalized seizures? I am being tested for seizures, but suffer the symptoms of simple partial seizures for the past few years. I have never had then turn into generalized seizures (hope they never do!), but would like to know if that can happen and if so how often? Is it rare?

I am on .5 mg of Ativan for anxiety so I'm wondering if that's enough of a dose to prevent seizures?? My mom takes 4 mg of Ativan daily for her seizures because she had Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis Syndrome from her seizure meds.

Hello, I have simple and complex partial seizures. My neurologist has told me that it's likely that I will have at least one grand mal at some point in my life. Seizures can change pattern over time. I've had two neurologists tell me that since being diagnosed (and have personally experienced some changes just in the symptoms of the partial seizures, as well as the fact that I now get drop attacks when for the first few years I didn't).

I am not at all experienced with Ativan, I'm afraid. I have some as backup, and I've been instructed to take 1/2 mg if I have a cluster day, but that would be on top of what I'm already taking, so I'm really not sure.

Thank you for your reply. It seems as though I was symptoms free for a few years and now I get the simple partial seizures (if that's what they are) more often.

I hope they will be able to answer all your questions with the tests they're running! Have any of the tests been completed yet? I had 3 EEGs and an MRI before I was diagnosed with epilepsy.

Seizures are unpredictable -- they may progress, they may remit, they may change in response to internal and external triggers. Generally though, the risk of progression from a partial seizure to a more generalized kind exists when the seizures are left untreated/uncontrolled.
