my son is almost 28, with intractable epilepsy. we've researched and tried major university medical centers from west to east coast. i have been researching gastric epilepsy. my son often has seizures right before, during or after elimination. since the seizures - generalized atypical absence or tonic clonic - occur around the time of his medication dose (which he takes every eight hours - combo of tegretol/keppra/felbamate- i thought his seizure activity was due to low blood levels. i have had rheumatoid arthritis since a teenager and often felt that resistant epilepsy was somehow an autoimmune problem. i took minocycline for years and did well. this medication is now in research for autism. my son developed autistic qualities after being diagnosed with epilepsy at age 8 with no apparent reason for onset. at age 10 to 13 when he had uncontrollable seizures/status which caused brain injury and a "cognitively normal" child became severely impaired. now looking again at the GAPS diet - high oils, natural fats, meats, no refined products, no soy. this is my first entry on any epilepsy forum.
