Yes, but an epilepsy diagnosis by itself is not enough. You need to show that epilepsy has impaired you so that you are unable to work:

Epilepsy or seizure disorder is listed in the social security administration's impairment listing manual. And reading the listing for epilepsy gives one a clear sense of how social security views all impairments, which is this: an impairment, mental or physical, must result in significant functional limitations, to the extent that a claimant becomes unable to work (either at a past job or at some form of other work) and earn a minimal income for a period not less than twelve months.

You'll find guidelines here: http://www.allsup.com/about-ssdi/ssdi-guidelines-by-disability/epilepsy.aspx

Yes, you can always try to go for SSI. I did back in 2003. I was going from job to job, working for about four months, then having a seizure, and about a week later was told I didnt have a job no more. Of course they always gave a different reason for letting me go, and not saying it was due to my epilepsy. Anytime I had a seizure, just days later they would tell me I no longer had a job. So, my mom said enough was enough. We tried to get the SSI but the judge said she found me capable of getting a job like at an office where I could be behind a computer doing receptionist work.

Since then, ive had three kids, and my husband is working full time. Ive been a stay at home mom. Our youngest is 4 yrs old, he doesnt go to kindergarten til August 2012. But in the meantime, ive had people tell me I should still try to appeal the SSI.

I have an attorney through work it is mandatory they file for me when I have been unable to work for a year.Well, its been over 2 yrs,i receive a small stipend and insurance from my employer and been turned down 3 imes for ssi and ssd-doc and govt claims I can work a minimum wage job which in their eyes is enough to support myself and family.I havent paid credit cards in 2 years,no money to file bankruptcy, house in foreclosure almost 2 yrs-the only reason I still live here is my mortgage has been sold to other banks and 3 banks trying to foreclose has kept the judge from making a ruling.Cant even get 5 bucks a week in foodstamps to buy milk.I wouldnot hold my breath on government-social services lady told me when the time comes I cant feed my kids, they would be placed in the system temporarily until I "get my act together"-NOT IN MY LIFETIME-guess thats why Im so hesitant about dealing with ANY mental health-those records follow you and can be used against you-Can anyone say PARANOIA? on my part-haha
