I decided to see if a diet would help with my spells. I cut out all sugars and dairy. I'm eating fruits and veggies and whole grains. Also some meat. Yesterday after being outside i got overheated and had a tc type spell losing bladder control, so since the doctors wont help me hopefully a diet will.. Is there anyone here dxed with non e seizures that have gotten better with a diet?

Making nutritional changes is a good idea for over all health, IMO. Being the best that you can be, is important.

It is my opinion that you need to be careful that you don't substitute refined grains for the sugar and the dairy that you have eliminated. Make a lot of veg soup (careful with the broth since most have MSG in them) to fill up on before each meal. Add fish to your list too, those on the list without mercury.

It might be a few months... when I hope you see some improvement in your episodes.
I am glad you are doing this for yourself.

Last night a friend & I were talking about diet & she'd said that for the longest time she's been using barley flour instead of wheat flour. She says she definitely feels a difference in how she feels & thinks it has to do with the sugar in her blood.

It might be something worth considering.

Hello!

Good nutrition is vital. Be sure to ask your doctor about a special diet for seizure control. They might have a recommendation for you.

I did ask our neuro about using a special diet for better seizure control while we were discussing complimentary therapies. He suggested the south beach diet since our DD, 14 tested negative for celiac disease.

Also here is a link to epilepsy centers across the country, maybe there is a doctor who can help with non e seizures.

Thanks for your replys.

Robin I got two different types of bread to try one is 100% whole wheat 19g whole grains and 3g fiber the other is black forest rye. Are those good types of bread? If not can you suggust another type of bread that is better?

The diet I am tring was suggusted by my psycholoist. We are tring to increase my energy level and lose some weight. I'm hoping that if I am not so tired all the time it will help with my overall health.

Oh and i'd love to add fish but I can't have it in the house my husband is extremly allergic to it.

I would recommend supplementing with the fish &/or flax seed oils. The essential fatty acids are good for brain function & some people say it helps their epilepsy. It also helps if you want to lose weight because when ones body gets more of the good fats, it tends to hold on to less of the bad fats.

How do I add those oils? add it with food or take it in a vitamin or something?

I get them at the health food store in gelatin capsules. The bottle (on both fish & flax seed) says to take them 3 times a day.

We use Nordic Naturals, which is a gel capsule.
You can also take it in liquid form if you want to just take a Tbls full, or you can add it to a drink. Rebecca refused this approach, so we have the capsules.

Make sure what you do purchase is the highest quality that you can afford. Some are worthless.

read up about gluten free diets and seizures. The changes have been amazing for me. The diet is really hard and I was hoping it wouldn't make a difference. I really can not ever remember just feeling good. But now I do. It didn't just help my brain it helped my whole body.

Well I do have a bit more energy and no spells last night or today. Off to a good start so far.
