we're starting the MAD diet today for my 11yr son. I homeschool now because the school was calling me so many times . I pray that this diet will help him. if anyone has any suggestions on how to explain how a new diet will help his seizures ( which he doesn't remember having ) I 'll listen.
Thx,pegiann

Diet is the fuel that keeps the engine (body) running. Some engines run great on regular 87 gas. Some need deisel.

Bernard answered in a more general way.

To answer you question specifically:

When you go on a MAD diet your body starts to burn fat in order to get fuel for your body so you would be able to function and continue with your daily routines.

The main difference between MAD diet and regular diet is that your body doesn't use glucose as the main source of energy but rather keton cells which are produced when your body burns the fat.

Those same ketones are used by the brain as fuel instead of glucose for all the functions of the brain which in turn can lead to a seizure controll since the brain may work in a different way than before.

Hope that explained it.

My daughter is 16 years old MAD , before the day M was large keton, first day M drop to
negative to small in the past 2 months, ketones
do not show on the test strips during their period? I'm wondering why this
is? Do you still think she could still be in ketosis without the showings on
the strips or lose all ketosis? how to avoid this problem?
Thanks!!
