Hey everyone..

I was wondering if anyone's had strange things happen after a tc (gran mal) seizure. I had one this weekend on Sunday morning. Saturday I was getting sick - runny nose, cough, etc. Lots of mucus. Then the seizure overnight, and once I'm back to normal from the seizure, cold is gone. completely.

anyone have something like this happen before?

Chris

Sometimes I've felt better after a seizure than beforehand. But I don't think I've had any seizures that have killed a cold!

Did you sleep a lot after the seizure? Sometimes that can help you heal faster from a cold virus, particularly if you were exhausted when it hit.

Also sometimes you spike a fever with the onset of a TC so maybe that did what a flu fever would do and burned up the bugs.

Interesting.

Just a thought: any chance something you are allergic or sensitive to made its way into your respiratory system short term? I ask because in the last few years I will feel like I am coming down with a cold for as long as 24 hours after even short exposure to cigarette smoke and cottonwood. Then, after roughly 24 hours the "cold" completely vanishes.

Never had anything exactly like that. I have pretty rough protracted generalized tonic seizures. Leave me feeling like I was hit by a truck. But, what I have noticed is that, immediately afterward, I feel wiped out because my blood sugar is really low from the activity. But, then a few hours later, my blood sugar rebounds and I get a short high where I feel really energetic and alert.

This only lasts an hour or so, then I crash again.

But, I can see a possibility whereby one's body's response to a seizure has the effect of temporarily boosting the immune system. Don't know of any documentation of such a thing, but speaking anecdotally, I could see how this could happen.

Strange, but I actually had the same thing happen to me last weekend...I'm in the middle of a med change so I'm already seizure central. But then I felt a cold coming on and I knew that would exasperate things...I had about a day and a half of a terrible cold, then two gran mals back to back that next morning - by the end of the day my cold had gone away. I have no idea how because usually when I get sick it's for weeks but it knocked it right out of me. I kinda wish it'd been the other way around - I'd take a bad cold over withdrawal any day but yeah, same thing happened to me.
