Hey people. I haven't had a grand-mal in about a month now (yay!), but I've been experiencing something strange that I'm wondering if it may be a simple-partial maybe? It happens about 3-5 days a week, and seems to be completely random. It's a sudden sense of vertigo, that never seems to last any longer than 5 seconds. For example, I'll be sitting at my computer reading a web site and suddenly it hits me, then goes away a few seconds later. What do you guys think? Is this probably epilepsy related, or not?

Make an appointment

with an ENT, just to be sure (Ear, Nose and Throat specialist). They're the ones that would be able to rule out vertigo for sure....then you would know if it's E related or not.

It IS a possibility that it's E related, however, it's also possible that it's not, so check with the ENT....

Agree with Meetz. It could be something as simple as an inner ear infection.

A few months back, I was having the same problem. My neuro said that he felt it may be related to inner ear. I was confused as I thought it felt similar to when I would have my simple partials. It did stop after a few weeks. Neuro had told me that if it did not stop, he would send me to ENT

I have had something similar that I talked to my old neuro about. We were looking at the possiblilty of them being atonics becuase I always fall forward and am not aware as it happens but afterwards I know that something happened and several time, people have caught me. I never fall on my face or totally flat on the ground- but do fall forwards and to the right and have no control during it. It started happening after I started reducing my meds (Several time) which is not a good idea. I thought that sence I was doing well seizure wise, that i didnt need as much Tegretol XR.
Anyways- I will be discussing this more with my new neuro that i will see in November.

I was diagnosed with vertigo by my audiologist and participated in balance phsycial therapy which did help. So consider that it might be inner ear troubles, ear infection, fluid in the ear or behind the ear drum etc. Also consider cardiac conditions too such as palpitations (heart pounding or skipping) or blood pressure issue as well.
Talk to you doctor for sure!

I suggested these things since I am deafblind and have a cardiac condition (not serious) as well as vertigo and epilepsy.
I hope it helps.

Please take care
