I've always been a person that has to sleep with a ton of blankets on me, espically heavy ones. This is in the winter and summer. In the winter I'll usually have about 3 or 4 on me.

In the last year I've been waking up at night sweating like crazy. I have to take my pj's (which are usually a t shirt and shorts) off and all the blankets too because they are soaked. I might beable to keep a sheet on me but even sometimes that's still to hot.

I haven't had any changes to my meds and the bed and blankets are the same ones that I've always used.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I like heavy covers on me too, a light sheet just doesn't cut it. We do have our ceiling fan on high. Some nights I do get a little sweaty on nights I was pretty restless. I get tangled in the bedding, in my tshirt, hair gets in the way, etc.

Could you be approaching menopause?

I'm 35 and had a hystermacy in October so I dont think that couldn't be the cause of it. Plus this has been going on before and after the surgery.

Lamictal gave me night sweats at first. Which med(s) are you on?

Depakote
Tegretol
Keppra
Lamictal

I've been on all of these before I started sweating though and there haven't been any changes in dosages

Sometimes changes in metabolism that occur naturally due to aging can change how our meds affect us. Mention the sweating to your doc -- it may be worth looking into.

Does this mean I'm getting old? :roflmao:

Thanks Nakamova. I just saw my neuro last week and forgot to ask him about it. I'm going to make a note to make sure I say something for my next visit if it's still going on.

Not older, but better!

If your metabolism is slowing down (as often happens as we age), it might mean that you don't need quite as much of one or more of your meds. Your body may be retaining more of a med longer, comparable to upping your dosage, with resulting side effects...

I'm on Depakote ER and Keppra XR, and I sometimes have night sweats. I also like blankets, and usually have to take them off of me during the night. I also have a fan running the whole night usually not directly on me, but just to the side where I catch a slight draft. My metabolism is slow which I am sure is because of my meds. I'm not sure how to solve this issue, but you aren't alone!

I take dilantin and am always freezing, Im freezing right now. I always sleep in flannels and socks (real sexy huh). I sleep with flannel sheets, electric blanket on high with a fan running and lately have been having night sweats also. I seem cold all the time.

This is interesting because i've been waking up sweaty at night lightly, very unusual for me. I'm on Lamactil so maybe it is a side effect of the meds.

Thanks Bernard! I'm going to ask my dr about that.

I don't know if you could answer this question, or if anyone else can or it happens this way to them too. It's not every night that I'm sweating. Some nights I'll be freezing cold when I go to bed and have to put an extra blanket on. I'll sleep fine. I used to beable to sleep in flanel pj's, sometimes still can if I'm cold. So I don't know if sleep apena is an every night thing.

I have a VNS too, put in in 2007, but it's just been within the last year that the sweats started so I don't think that would have anything to do with it.

I can't remember exactly but I think it was over a year ago, so maybe that could be the cause of it.

I notice too that if I say on my back all night I'm ok, no sweating.

I am so grateful to have found this message thread...

I have been having the same problem! I registered on this site just now because I saw this post. I realize this is an epilepsy message board, but I couldn't find anything on any of the bipolar boards.

I am on Lamictal for bipolar disorder. I have been on it for about almost 4 years and it has helped my moods so much. The last 2 years I have noticed excessive sweating as well as night sweats. I was also taking Zoloft, so this past January I tapered off of that, but stayed on Lamictal. The daytime sweating got less after going off of the Zoloft, but the night sweats continue.

I wake up every night sweating completely through my sheets and clothing. The back of my hair is completely soaked and I wake up shivering. My feet are always cold and I have to wear socks to bed, which I never would do. I have a heater in my room, as well as a fan to help with air circulation.

I also notice a very strange ammonia type odor from the sweat. It is something I have never smelled when I am sweating normally. Is anyone else having this type of smell happen when they are sweating through the night? I have even had to double check and sniff the sheets to make sure I didn't wet the bed (which I hadn't).

I have had hormone levels checked (I am only 29, yet there was a potential for early onset menopause), thyroid checks, gone to a dermatologist and nothing.

I take 400mg at night, but talked to my doctor today and am going down to 300mg. I really hope that lowering the dosage will make the sweating a bit more bearable.

I'm 23, I'm NOT on Lamictal and I've noticed for the past 3-4 months that I wake up covered in sweat. My shirt is wet, my pillow is wet and I feel sore and sick.

I have night sweats all the time. I used to like it very warm as a child, but that changed pretty much with puberty. That makes me think it may possibly be hormonal? I know this happens during menopause, is that a possibility? As for meds, I had night sweats with all of them except for topomax, which caused me to be constantly cold.
