Has anyone ever taken them self off an AED?

MY neuro at his other office today and I want off the ONFI.

I told his secretary of side effects I was having, and if he didn't take me off,I'd take myself off it.

I definitely don't need the increased drowsiness that I've gotten from it.

I know for sure that onfi (clobazam) isn't one you can just come off quickly. It's a benzo so the recommended decrease for tapering off of it (and not triggering more seizures) is usually decreasing by 2.5mg every 2 weeks
I would definitely talk to your doc before you do it though. Have you been on it long? Sleepiness with clobazam is often something that wears off a bit after time,

With any of the seizure meds, you shouldn't suddenly stop taking them. If you do, you could end up "status" and that is very dangerous. You need to slowly taper the dosage down week by week, or maybe every 3-5 days. Belinda, since you are on so much meds, it's best to be under the supervision of a dr.
 
Think about it. Your body is going to react to a sudden change. Gradually, take yourself off. That's what I did with the Keppra.

My neuro called I told him about the side effects I was having. He said to go down to 5 MG first.Since I've only been taken it like 1 week to go 3 days without taking it to get it out of my system, than go back up to 5 MG a day.:agree:
 
I experienced quite bad benzo withdrawal on clobozam ramping down too quickly but had been on them for 8 weeks. GP did admit afterwards that 'perhaps' they had tried too much too quickly.

So hope all goes smoothly.

I detoxed off 400mg of Topamax and thought I was going to crawl out of my skin. I felt horrible. I was hospitalized at the time so at least I knew if something happened, I would be cared for. It was replaced with Zonagran but I eventually was able to go off that too and now only have a seizure every month or so, using diet, exercise and stress-reduction techniques. I wish you the best of luck and know you are on a lot of meds right now. I hope you feel better soon!
 
my doctor took me off 800mg of tegretol XR a day to put me on lamictal.However the dosage was extremely low and i ended up having a grand mal seizure. the next day i put myself back on my tegretol and left the lamictal alone.
 
It's taking me nearly 6 months to switch from one to another...definitely worth taking it slowly unless the side effects are really more devastating than a seizure would be.
