I've mentioned before that I take tegretol 800mg and Clonazepam 5mg.

Question: are there other members on this combination of drugs, and if so, how are they getting on with them?

Hi Nicholasscott21,

I take 600 mg tegretol and 400mg of zonegram. This combination and a right temporal lobectomy has been my life saver. Before, I was having 5 to 6 grand mal seizures every night. Now I rarely have a seizure unless I am extremely stressed and over-tired. Right now, I am attending college (part-time) and a little over 5 months pregnant at the age of 42. Our baby is healthy and there isn't any signs of birth defects (thank God). How are you doing with tegretol and clonazepam? I have taken many medications but clonazepam is one I haven't. Tegretol (plus zonegram) seems to be the best one for me. At one point, before I had the surgery, I was taking 1600 mg of tegretol (and a high dose of Keppra). I have been able to reduce tegretol, get off of my high dose of keppra but I had a tonic/clonic seizure right after my surgery so they put me on zonegram (which works great for me). I believe I will always have to take these meds if I want to remain seizure-free and that is my goal.
 
I have been on clonazepam (0.5mg) 1/2 tablet every 4 hours except at 10:00PM I then take 1 tablet - total of 3 1/2 tablet a day
I have been on clonazepam since 2004

I am also on dilantin and have working my way off of it. dilantin worked for me for many years, Now I'm having the problems of long term use. I just hope it not to late, the dr. told me last thur. that I could have some brain damage from it.

She stared me on Topiramate and as this is increased she will started to decrease the dilantin until I'm off.

She did say (when I was leaving ) that her next step was to get me off the clonazepam.
I am not willing to do that.
I have tried decreasing a little here and there. and let me tell you, that is something you do not want to do...

I have said this before on other post/threads--if it's not broken - then don't fix it.

I can say this for clonazepam--I do not have seizures as often as I did before, they don't last as long, and they are not as sever.
I can NOT say that for all the other medic. I have been on in the past.
