The E doc said lemectil may take away the side effects of keppra for me and also help with the absence seizing i may be having and not know it. That sure seems like a lot of meds. What is gonna happen when i have side effect from those new meds? I like to call them "effects" not side-effects. It's what they do.

Sorry to hear you have to start another med. FWIW Lamictal does seem to be one of the meds with fewer side effects but it does have some. For my daughter while tapering up she was quite hyper and had trouble sleeping but that settled. She is having some vision issues though which i gather is pretty common on lamictal

Thank you chmmr. I will watch for vision stuff and they told me to watch for the 'rash' that some people get. a skin rash. Scary to mess with the bodies natural chemistry but It is worth being seizure free. I will happily risk side effects.

Agreed, Yes the rash is why you have to taper up very slowly. We had to watch for that too. After 9 weeks of being on it now though, and just finally reaching our target dose from what i understand her risk from now on of the rash is quite small. I hope it goes well for you!

I am also on lamactil and keppra and it's working great so far. Was tired a fair bit going up in doses but that was it for me

Out of the other 2 I take- carbamazepine, keppra xr - it probably has the least worse affects lol

It is used as a mood stabilizer as well, so could help with the keppra I suppose- I've always taken them together so can't really comment. I had to increase last year after 15 years on the same dosage, and I have to say it knocked me sideways for a couple of months- not only was I was an emotional wreck, but had a lot of vertigo and vision problems, auditory hallucinations etc.

I should have ramped up much slower, someone mentioned 9 weeks which sounds good. The weird affects did go quite soon, but I still have the odd blurry vision, or occasional swoon- like getting up too quickly. The worse affect is the insomnia if you get that, but I've really got control of that recently by sticking to a strict cycle, and taking a b6 and magnesium supplement mid-evening.

Thank you! I also have a high blood pressure med and worry about a side effect of raising BP as some AED's can. I do Magnesium at night and a good multi daily. I try to remember the B-complex at night too. I have some B-5 i used to take for 'bruxism' "grinding teeth at night. I will look into B-6 now. Thanks.
