So I spoke with my edoc this morning. I've just successfully switched off of keppra which I was very nervous about. I'm now on 300mg of Topamax a day. My seizure levels remain more or less the same however (still 1-2 a day average). So where to go from there? Well there were two options: Boost the depakote or the topamax. I'm against boosting the depakote as we've already tried that and it made me gain so much weight. So that leaves the topamax. Doc said we'll only go so high though. He says there's no point in pushing it to the max like with the other drugs. This is because a) there's not really much point when I've had so little success with the other drugs, and b) I have "dopamax", the memory loss side effect.
This time he says there are no more drugs to try. Next step is the VNS. He hasn't mentioned the VNS in a long time (since early last year), but it seems we're getting closer to that point. My guess is we'll be there sometime next late next summer after fully ramping up the topamax.
