My Neurologist decided to do an EEG in one of her rooms. She did not do it. A technician did the EEG. She told me to be completely still.

I have been having jerking seizures in my right arm. I never know when they are going to start or stop. I was having them during the EEG. The technician was mad after the test. She said that she was going to clean up the test. What did she mean by that?

When I got home, I called up my Neurologist, and told her what the technician told me. I told her that I was having focal seizures and that I could not stop it. She said that she would look at it right away.

That same night I had a Tonic-Clonic.

Has anyone had the same problem?

How are you supposed to keep completely still, that is just not possible with the jerking. Do me a favour when you find out how to clean up an E.E.G. or what it means let me know. How could a technician tell you that, does not surprise me any more what they say.

how long has this technician been doing EEG? how insensitive. The science(and i mean that in a sarcastic way) of diagnosing seizures can be frustrating.Especially when you come across insensitive and disbelieving individuals.

How rude, she does get that this are involuntarily movements we don't do them for rainbows and lollipops. Arghhh, sorry having a very ragey day, trying to send pleasant calming healing vibes to you x.

I had something similar happen, but mine was due to shivering lol. The room was freezing. I was told I couldn't have a blanket because they wanted to record any seizure-type movements that might have occurred. The tech. said she thought the temperature was fine --- she was extremely overweight, so I'm sure she did think the temperature was fine!

Hi FedUp, I do not think that they will tell me how to "clean up an EEG." They might switch it to someone who had a normal EEG.

Hi Marths, She is about 40 years old. I think that she has been doing them a long time.

Hi QueenieKP, thank you for sending me pleasant, calming vibes to me.

Hi Ruth --

I'm glad you mentioned it to your neurologist. What the technician said doesn't make sense -- the EEG is meant to look for seizure activity and the twitches you were experiencing = seizure activity. It is true that body movements can show up as distracting "noise" on the EEG, but in this case, your body movements weren't noise -- they were the main act! I hope the technician does NOT "clean up" the EEG -- the information she might delete could be crucial.

I hope you re feeling better from the tonic-clonic.

Hi Nakamova,

She said that she was going to clean it up. When I got home, I called my neuro and told her what happened during the EEG. I told her that the tech was going to "clean it up" and I wanted her to see what was going on.

I agree with you, It was the "main act." They were not twitches, they were jerks in my right arm. They come and they go.

I have simple partial seizures, which were not often lying down anyway. Despite this, they told me to lie down and lie still. But I had a partial during the EEG test, they didn't look at me, just told me to "relax". Shortly after it had finished, they said that was better. They then reported their findings as something like no seizure activity was seen during the test. If anything did show up at first I'm guessing they will have put it down to not being relaxed.

Hi davidmc,

That partial would have shown up during the EEG. That is unless they "cleaned it up." That means the tech took everything out that showed your partial seizure.

Tell your doctor what happened.
