I have an appointment with the Epileptolgist today. I have 2 goals for this appointment.
1. to get off Keppra
2. Discuss VNS

We had discussed VNS as an option during my last appointment.

So let's hope for a good visit with my friend!

I'll post an update later today.

Just got back from the appointment. Good news in a round about way I had a seizure in his office. He missed it by about 30 seconds but he could definitely tell I had a seizure.
My first goal wasn't met. He is taking off Lamictal though and starting on Dilantin. He really believes my issues are caused by the Lamictal. I have to trust his judgment. He is the expert.

Goal number 2 We did discuss the VNS but he wants to do another VEEG in September. He believes since my seizure have gotten worse and have increased he is optimistic of catching one this time. If the activity is coming from the right temporal lobe then we will discuss surgery. If the activity is elsewhere then the VNS. The right temporal lobe was the location of the first surgery. If it shows elsewhere the idea of taking another part of my brain he fells is too risky. I have to agree!
I do believe it was a good visit with my friend. Stay tuned we'll see where this leads!

Sounds like it went well. Good thing you had the seizure while in his office, at least he could tell you just had one.

I'm hoping you can have the VNS. But time will tell. Don't want you to have a risky brain surgery.

Keep us updated.

Good to hear... hopefully you'll get a good idea of what's next, soon! I hope that the switch to Dilantin works well for you :)

Sounds like the epileptologist was responsive. Since you'll be making a drug switch, try and keep detailed notes so you can get a sense of whether it makes things better, worse, or about the same.

I tried a ton of different meds but none of them seemed to help and since I'm unable to have surgery so my nero suggested a VNS. I had the surgery in 2007 and it's helped a lot.

I'm still having seizures but not as many and they aren't nearly as bad as they were before I got it. I am still taking meds too though.
