Hi I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations on doctors that I can get a referral for ? My neurologist at the moment I feel does not take me seriously and does not listen to what I need, I am really trying to find a new one who will take me seriously and listen to me.

I hope someone can help thank you :)

Hi Paige,

If you go online and type in Healthgrades.com and then type in a name of a Dr. you may be interested in
they will give you the Drs. schooling and background along with any reviews people have written about the Dr.
Another way is to check with your family Dr. I know I got the best help when I started seeing an Epileptologist
at a Epilepsy Center. You can usually find these Drs. at big hospitals or university hospitals.
I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You,

Sue

Where do you live? This might sound a little goofy but for some doctors I've gotten I've Googled what area of medicine they deal with and where I live to find a doctor. I go to a lot of different specialist doctors for different things and I've found a few this way. Sometimes you can find even websites that will tell you of what people think of the doctor and they might even rate them.

I was getting really sick of my former neuro, pretty much for the same reasons as you. I found my new neuro at a epilepsy seminar I'd gone to. I talked to him for a little bit and he asked me if I'd want to see him. When I told him yes he fumbled around in his pockets for a piece of scratch paper and wrote my phone number down and said he'd have the office call me to make an appointment. I got his number too because I thought 'no office is going to call me to make an appointment'.

Well the next day his office did call! I couldn't believe it! He's great and has helped me out and listens to me a ton more than my former neuro!

That’s amazing I’m so glad you were able to find one that works for you! I’m located in BC and I’m really hoping that I can find a new doctor because mine made me really sick and I had to fight with him to lower my medication dosage

I don't know what the process is in BC. Here in the USA, you can ask your primary care doctor for referrals to a different neuro or you can research doctors in your area and tell your primary care doc that you want a referral for a specific neuro.

Be aware though that when you switch neuros, the new one is almost certainly going to talk to the old one to get caught up on your care history.
