I was wondering how safe is it for people with primary generalized epilepsy taking lamictal. I've been seizure free for 16 months now. I still live with my father, and well his girlfriend is a nurse who was exposed to a patient with two types of the flu. She was able to get a few vaccines. She gave me one, and I didn't give any thought to it. I was wondering, how safe are they in epileptics? I searched, and I see a lot of people complaining about vaccines being linked to epilepsy. My original thought was it's probably safer than getting sick since the flu could trigger a seizure.

Any thoughts? I haven't had a vaccine since I was like 14 until just now.

I've heard of vaccines in babies potentially causing epilepsy, but not the flu vaccine. It's all swings and roundabouts though, what may have an effect on one may not on the other.

Well, I was really asking if there is a possibility in those vaccines to trigger a seizure in me. I didn't care to call my neurologist to ask a dumb question. :P

In rare cases the flu vaccine can cause febrile seizures in very young children, but there isn't any known link between the flu shot and seizures in adults.

I would be much more concerned about the consequences that catching the flu could have on your seizures - high fevers and infections are known seizure triggers in some people with epilepsy, while the vaccine is very safe! I wouldn't worry about it!
