I'm checking in for a VEEG on the 19th. Anyone have any words of wisdom? What should I expect? What's it like to have the wires on 24/7? How do they keep them from falling off? Does it feel heavy and make it hard to sit up or anything?

I have the idea that I'll take my laptop/tablet for drawing and a book, but I'm not sure what else to bring other than personal items/clothes. What did you wish you'd brought with you?

Good luck!!

Something to color, if you like coloring? I'd be happy with Netflix and my crocheting along with a little coloring for when I got super bored.

I heard you aren't allowed to touch the computer, that it might cause things to show up? I could also be misremembering things.

The flyer they gave me said that I can use a laptop, but if it messes with things I'll have to put it away. So I guess sometimes it's okay? I'm not really sure. I'm bringing it just in case. Maybe I'll bring a sketchbook too, just in case the laptop doesn't work out. Crochet is a great idea--I'll add that to the list. Thanks!

When i had mine i took my crochet :) ... You Dont really notice them ... It takes alot longer to put the wires on as they make them alot neater and use stronger glue then they wrap your head like a mummy .. Well they do here in the UK .... I got on okay with it i would advise lots of butoning up shirts since you Cant take anything off over your head

Good luck Xx

Hi Josie -
Goodluck with the VEEG. As Jayde said make sure you have plenty of tops which are button down or have zippers on them.
You should be able to take your laptop but if you need to recharge it you ay have to get someone to plug it into a powerpoint away from you.

When I had my VEEG my Mum & I rented a TV in the monitoring room we were in. We also took plenty of board games, my Mum took her kindle & I took some puzzle books.
I don't have a laptop but I used my mobile to play games & text my friends. I was able to text on my mobile but not talk on it as it interfered with the electrodes.

If at all possible shave your head, or cut your hair as short as possible.
The cement/glue they use to add the electrodes is a real PITA to get out.
It's kinda weird at first, but you can get used to it. IE: Take a beach towel,
and wrap it around your head. Let the rest hang down behind you.

I wouldn't bring any high-priced expensive things with you. IE: laptops, taplets,
ipods, etc. One they might not allow it any way. Two you may end up breaking
them if you have a seizure. Three there is a chance they might "walk away".
If you need your own music try borrowing an old portable CD player.

You can easily get by with puzzle books, a deck of cards, visiting with family/friends, or watch tv (which usually provided).

Good Luck. :)

Where I had mine you could have a laptop or tablet as long as they were wireless. So If yours are, make sure to take your charger. I had the nurse plug mine in each nite. I had to be at least 10 feet away while charging. Also, I had to have an IV put in for emergency purposes, so my plan of zipper front sweat shirts went out the window. I had to wear the classy hospital gown, but I did bring sweat pants to wear underneath. Remember too that you may get warm, so plan for that. If you wear glasses to read, let them know when they start wrapping your head. They can make it easier for you to take glasses off and on without disturbing any leads. Twice they had to re-glue leads on and on the fourth day they unwrapped my head just so you get some air. It was the best! Of course you get wrapped back up, but it was so good to have it off for an hour! Best of luck to you!

Thanks, guys! Hmm, I have shaved my head before, but I'm not sure I'm up for that this time--trying to grow it out. LOL! We'll see how it goes.

My laptop is wireless, but my pen tablet uses a USB cable to connect to the laptop. Would that still be considered wireless, since it's not plugged into the wall? If I can't use my tablet, at least I could use the laptop for Netflix (the main reason I want to bring it).

I had three button down plaids, and I just bought two more, so I am set for the shirts. That's a good point about having your head wrapped and being hot, I didn't even think of that.

So I think I'll bring my laptop and pen tablet (just in case), some crochet, a book, a sketchbook/pencils, my origami stuff, a deck of cards, and maybe a journal.

Do they restrict your diet at all? I hope they let me at least have my coffee!

I just had a VEEG done in Dec and Jan. and they actually gave me all the coffee I wanted so that I had seizures. Good luck it look like you're all set.

when i had my veeg they did restrict any food on me. heck they even brought me diet cokes, filled with caffiene to try to get the seiuzres started. The hospital I had mine done, had 24 hour room service, so anytime you got hungry, they always had something available.

I did bring my lap top, some magazines, dvds... but pretty much only used my laptop while I was there. The rest of the time, lets say I just watched the tv and was out of it.

That's interesting about the caffeine, I hadn't thought of that, but it makes sense (since they encourage attempts to trigger).

I emailed the patient consultant about the pen tablet wire, and he said it should be fine, just as long as the laptop is wireless. Yay!

Just remember why you are there in the first place.

It's nice having all your tech goodies available, but when
limbs go flapping about things can break.
_______

Food wise they want to get your body revved up. So expect access to
sugar & caffeine. :)
