So last night i had a seizure. im not surprised. it was my fault. i F**d up and drank saturday and so the hangover lowered my threshold.. normally is i slip up i do have a seizure but usually a mild one. last night however.. it was a gran mal for starters. and my auras werent there to warn me. my stomach was quite queezy so i hadnt gotten anything to eat and barely drank any liquid (again stupidity on my part). so my body started to shake. well it actually started as a shiver. as if i was cold. but then the shiver just sorta took over.. my hubby could tell somethin was up and laid me down on the bed. i remember looking up at him in disbelief.. then before i knew it i was in seizing mode. it was a harsh one so he had to semi pin me to the bed so i didnt slam my head thru the headboard or fall over.. my entire back arched up so bad that its been sore all day. thankgod my arms are naturally double jointed or else they would be broken. i also got more vocal. he said my grunts which are usually subtle got much louder and he was worried i DID break a bone. i became conscious at some point and we thought it was over but my body still kept shivering and shaking and then again i lost consciousness.. but the second one is wut truely disturbed me.. i apparently started to speak in tongues.. my husband said i was speaking so fast that it sounded like it was several different voices.. i didnt really have any auras. unless the shiver that turned into shaking was one. anyone else have an aura like that? or speak extremely fast gibberish during a tonic clonic? i've had plenty of that kind of seizure just not to that caliber.. my gran mals usually give me an aura before and i dont speak!!. my husband who is a very mellow logical person actually said for a moment he thought i was possessed. so im asking if anyone has had these kind..? and uh have someone think they are possessed? UGH it sounds so silly but.. im seriously confused and cant get in to see my neurologist for a bit.

oh one other thing. i started taking seraquil a few months ago to help me sleep.. do u think theres any correlation ?

Hi --

As far as I know I haven't "vocalized" during my seizures, but I've heard about it with others. I would be concerned about the Seroquel, though. It's not usually prescribed for sleep stuff, more for depression, and according to its website, "you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take Seroquel" if you have epilepsy and/or any of the other conditions listed below:

liver or kidney disease;
heart disease, high blood pressure, heart rhythm problems;
a history of heart attack or stroke;
a history of low white blood cell (WBC) counts;
a thyroid disorder;
high cholesterol or triglycerides;
a personal or family history of diabetes; or
trouble swallowing.

It's a good idea to check with your neurologist and/or pharmacist before adding another med into the mix.

Hi Morgan,

I have said some outlandish things (according to those around me) during my TC seizures that I later don't remember, but don't know that it would be considered as "speaking in tongues".

I agree with Nakamova on the Seroquel. I think the dr. needs to think of something else for sleep. Seroquel is used more for depressive/bipolar disorders. And Seroquel can make diabetes worse or bring on diabetes, so be very careful.
Seroquel may cause you to have high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). Talk to your doctor if you have any signs of hyperglycemia such as increased thirst or urination, excessive hunger, or weakness

actually my neurologist is the one who placed me on it and yes your right i am taking it for depression. i have some other.. err issues that my neurologist also handles. im just reluctant to mention them on this site yet. So im not entirely worried about that medication. im on the smallest dose at this moment and it seems to be working. im m ore so interested in the vocalization. have u heard about many others having that happen? or maybe just like a few? btw thanx so much for your imput :-)

The first TC seizure I had, my parents had called 911 and when the cops and paramedics arrived,my parents later told me that I had said some very nasty things to all of them, things I would never say in my "right mind". Of course, I don't remember any of it. But that was post-ictal. And several other times I've had TCs and others have said I say ugly things that I don't remember.

so u said words?like conversationally? mine just seemed to be gibberish. which, i guess? is actually better then saying profanity or things i would normally regret. im also frustrated cuz i just made the decision to talk to my doc abuot the steps i need and how to go about things to become pregnant.. guess i'll be waiting even longer *sigh*..
