Hi Folks,

I am debating on if I should leave the public school where I've been working for 30 yrs. This past Monday a student threatened to have a shoot out and brought a gun to school, but the police caught the student before he shot anyone, after that there was an assault between 2 students. All of this stress and pressure is triggering seizures for me and I'm very nervous going to work and I'm thinking about taking retirement but I will be taking a cut since I'm not 55 yrs. old yet. How do you handle things when you are under a lot of pressure? Thanks for letting me vent I really appreciate it. I wish all of you well and May God Bless You!

Sue,
I was working in the public school system here in Florida during 2006. That's when I started menopause and was dealing with a mentally ill son. Unfortunately, I could not leave my job but started on meds. Luckily, it helped me. I also had a very loving and supportive husband to watch over me.
Stress has been a trigger for me and I try to deal with it as best as I can but it is one of the most difficult obstacles to overcome.
Good Luck!

The Threat of Violence

Porkette,
I had lived in the Twin Cities for over 17 years, because that was where the jobs were located. I was ok until a robber pulled out a gun when I was working as the manager of an Auto Parts Store.
I just couldn't have ever faced that again, so the next morning I went down to U Haul and put the deposit on a moving truck. I moved back out to the rural area I had grown up in the next weekend. I wasn't even able to give a notice to my employer, because I felt I HAD to get out of the Twin Cities as fast I could.
This is only what I did, but you have to think of yourself and your health!:twocents:

This appauling, you won't get full pension. little Sh1t bag doing this to teacher schools like war zone
I don't know answer but it terribly unfair.Do you have class marshals and panic buttons

Hi Folks,
Thank you for all of your support and understanding. AC take my word if I could afford it I would be packing up and getting out of here a.s.a.p. I live about 10 miles from the school and I'm out in the country but the violence is getting worse each day in town. I especially think it's bad because both Cornell University and Ithaca College are right near where I live it's time to pack up like you did if I only could. Thanks for your support and May God Bless You!

Sue

HI seagull,

The student was let out of jail on parents supervision but was arrested on a class D Felony. I did take marshal arts a few yrs. ago when I used to work as a security guard at a mall but I should take some refresher classes especially since I'm not in my 20's anymore.
Thanks for your support and I'm glad we think alike. May God Bless You!

Porky sorry iPad no let me type name.Your situation is columbine waiting to happen again. What I was thinking of was marshals as in security guards that body check pupils.Appauling situation. If you leave you must go with serverence and full pension and redundancy pay classed as industrial injuries.More people do this American bizzarre third amendment laws will change and American people and goverment get pi88ed off.Last two mins I learn American trying pass law for pupils carry guns..I speechless

Hi seagull,
Believe it or not they have security guards in the school but they don't do a body check what the school needs is for students to get rid of the backpacks and they also need to put in a metal detector. I checked out a survey of the 10 most high risk jobs and working in public school came in at number 10. You are right this is another Columbine just waiting to happen. One thing I'm grateful I have is my ham radio I carry it with me all the time and I can call the police right away if there's any problems. Thanks again for your support and understand. May God Bless You!

P.S. I got the name Porkette because I collect pigs (cookie jars, clock, pot holder etc)
If I had every single pig I collected I would have over 1100 pigs sitting around the house. It's a real pig sty here : )

Your Pig Sty

Sue,
Do you have a full-sized pig made of cement in your front yard? It could be your watch-pig!:roflmao:
I understand your feelings when it comes to kids being able to bring their huge backpacks into school each day. Some of them are getting so big that they could carry a full arsenal in one. Why can't schools keep everything out except what is needed to do their schoolwork?
I suppose if the schools did that, the kids would cry that they would 'die' if they didn't have their cell-phones with them 24/7. You know that many parents would say the same thing!
I wonder what some of these kids would do if they had to live in a situation like WE grew up in?:ponder:

don't think it the books it the Magnum and 8inch dagger and a country that thinks God given right to carry guns

Hi AC,
Sorry to say I don't have a cement pig in the front yard, but I do have a cement pig dressed in grass skirt ready to do a little hula for you : )
On the 25th of this month the kids will be going to court for the sentencing I am hoping they don't let the kid back into the school again.
Wishing you well and May God Bless You,\

Hi seagull,

I agree with you God didn't give us a right to carry guns especially in public school.
Wishing you well and May God Bless You!

Cement Pig

Sue,
The cement pig can dance for me as long as she doesn't squash AC!:roflmao:
I am with you when it comes to those kids getting expelled. The problem is that 'juvenile' justice in this country maxes out at a 'slap on the wrist' and saying 'O, please, don't do it again'.

Thats a trigger caused by others. I thought if I get violent it can trigger. But I live in the slum so fighting is a stress relief.

I have small sized cement pig in back garden

You might want to consider violence a sort of stress and stress is a seizure trigger for many? I know if someone threatened to bring guns to school and have a shoot out I'd be pretty stressed out about it.

When I'm under pressure/stress it usually deals with house hold, medical or family issues. I try to sit myself down and say it's going to get better but sometimes that's easier said than done.

Being Threatened = Stress

This is definitely true! I was a manager of n auto parts store. One night I was scheduled to close the store. A few minutes before closing someone came into the store just like every other customer. When he got to the cash register he pulled out pistol. All I know is I lost several pounds that night(1 and 2). I never felt right again until I had moved out of the Twin Cities. I had an uncomfortable feeling doing anything, going anywhere after this robbery, while I stayed in the Twin Cities. This cleared up as soon as I moved out of the Twin Cities to a rural area that was similar to where I grew up!
