I have been looking into possible allergies and maybe vitamin/mineral deficiencies and wanted to know how I can tell if I have any. I suffer quite regularly with bloated stomach, intermittent diarreha and constipation and most recently really bad lower abdominal pain which even hurts when I walk.
I begged the GP to test for gluten sensitivity about 6 months ago and they did a blood test which came out fine. I asked if there was any other tests I could have for other allergies or deficiencies and the GP just looked at me as if I was stupid and told me it was probably just IBS and I have to live with it.

I had a hot chocolate at work the other day which was probably made with full fat milk as the coffee shop there is similar to Starbucks. Within 2 hours, I was so bloated and had horrendous stomach pains and wind (not ideal at work!) I had to undo the button on my trousers and I looked about 4 months pregnant!!!

I tested this theory again about 2 weeks later and the same thing happened. Just wondering if it could be a lactose intolerence but I'm fine with tea/coffee with milk but did have symptoms with a bowl of cereal.

I'm just worried about going back to the doctors as they really don't take me seriously so I have been looking into paying for some tests. I have found a place locally that does a bio-energetic stress test which tests for intolerences, deficiencies and allergies. It's tested by placing a probe on the finger. Has anyone had this test before or have any advice? Or will I just be wasting £60 for them to do a test and then try and sell me loads of alternative supplements?!!!!!

Personally I trust my own body to tell me what I need to do. If I were having your symptoms I would remove all dairy. If I felt better I wouldn't need a doctor to confirm that. If I suspected there are other issues with food allergies I would clean up my nutritional choices by going back to the basics. I find it much easier to figure this out without the base line testing which I found rarely gives the necessary information.

It isn't a trial for a week or two, you need to work at this for a minimum of six months. If you make a mistake / lapse in judgement keep going.

It appears that you are describing an unhealthy gut, either due to your food choices and how your body is attempting to digest them, or an intolerance to something in the "food". Though I wouldn't call hot chocolate food, you might consider that the shop uses a chemical sweetener and MSG in their recipe.

It could also be something about sugar, since it happened with the hot chocolate and with the cereal but not the coffee. You could also try switching to almond milk -- I've done so -- it's really tasty, and has lots of calcium, plus vitamins D, E, and A. As Robin says, you may need to commit to making longer-term changes in your diet and seeing if you feel better. Definitely stay away from the hot chocolate for now :)
