After last night's seizure, I called this morning to my neurologist's office and spoke with a nurse. I told her about what happened and how the numbness and tingling feelings are coming more and more through out the day. I also have had this "running motor" type feeling through out my whole body.

She told this to the dr and she calls back saying the Keppra XR is not holding my seizures for me. He wants me to add Vimpat to the Keppra XR Im taking now.

She said it sounds like the seizures I had during my VEEG were simple partials, and the Keppra is just not able to keep them from coming.

The first week I take 50mg tablets, twice a day, and then after that it gets increased to 100mg tablets twice a day.

I will be taking that will my 1500mgs of Keppra XR twice a day. (3000mgs total)

I really hope this medication helps. I just hate the feeling of the numbness and tingling feelings and that feeling through out my whole body.

She said to make sure I take it with food cause it will cause stomach pain and sometimes vomiting.

Good luck with the Vimpat. Maybe if it does the trick, you can taper off of the Keppra.

From the sounds of it, he only wanted me to be on Keppra, but the Keppra alone isnt keeping the seizures from trying to come about. So, he wants to add the vimpat to make sure the simple partial seizures dont get worse and turn into anything bigger.

Which kind of confuses me since it was less than 2 weeks ago that he claims I outgrew the grand mal seizures and at that time he thought the seizures I were having were stress related non epileptic seizures.

Since then, he must have gotten the psych notes from friday, the 18th of march when I saw her. Maybe when we saw her notes, since she doesnt think my seizures are stress related, that he was ok with putting me on the vimpat due to them not being stress related.

Who knows!? All I know is that I will be eager to see what he has to say in May when I see him again.

Good luck on the Vimpat. I hope it controls the rest of your seizures and that the side effects are tolerable. You've suffered enough through all this. I'm so GLAD your doc is on the same page with you now. :)

Thanks Endless! Im glad he can "hopefully" see where Im coming from now. I was glad that I got to speak to the his nurse about this. My mom was afraid after what happened last night that the Keppra XR wasnt holding my seizures for me, causing me to have those little moments where one would want to come, with the tingling or numbness feelings. My gut was telling me the Keppra XR wasnt doing the trick.

I just hope the side effects of the Vimpat are not bad!

Good luck! I am also on 3000 Keppra a day and 200 Vimpat. Getting off the Vimpat now, I hope it works better for you than it did for me!

Yeah. I had a bad time with dizziness and falling over, which passed after a month or two, splitting headaches which I still have. The main reason I'm getting pulled off though is that its been affecting my moods, stress levels and mental health to a point where I really need to get off it in case it becomes dangerous. Don't let me discourage you though, meds work differently for different people. Perhaps it will be the perfect thing for you!

That sucks it didnt work for you!

I hope it works for me! I cant stand the numbing and tingling feelings Im getting through out the days and nights. From the sounds of it, my dr must have got the psych dr's notes from my appointment on the 18th, which she said she doesnt think the seizures I had during my VEEG were stress related. Im hoping he saw her notes and made the decision to put me on the Vimpat since she doesnt think the seizures are stress related.

I go to see him May 25th, so I have alot of questions to ask him.

Yeah, I don't think they would put you on another med if they thought it was psychological. Good thing you have the psych doc on your side!

My neurologist will also be getting a good grilling when I see him on the 4th may lol.

I just got done talking with my mom about them putting me on the vimpat. She asked how I was feeling, and Im still feeling about the same... lots of numbness and tingling in my feet and hands. It's weird because it will come on strong, and stay for about 3-5 minutes at a time. Ive had this since they took me off my medications on the 7th of March.

I told her the same thing... I dont think they would have put me on the vimpat if they thought my seizures were all in my head and not epileptic seizures. Im hoping he can see things different now, than what he was saying two weeks ago.
