Last night I increased my Topamax dose from 25mgs to 50mgs.
I took it at 10pm, and was asleep by 10:30pm. I woke up at 1am thinking i heard one of the kids, and as I woke up, my heart was beating so fast, I didnt know what was going on... then as I sat up, and was getting out of bed, I noticed my vision was cloudy, I couldnt hardly see... I tried standing up and i couldnt stand up... It was like I was very dizzy... as I was trying to hold onto things to work my way to the kids room, I had this aweful nausea feeling. I made my way to their room where i had to sit down on one of their beds and as I did, my head was killing, i felt so weird... and I didnt know what was going on. I hollared for my husband to come help me. I couldnt think clearly at all. I didnt know what was going on. So I called my mom up, and she said to call the on call neuro office. The neuro that was on call wasnt my neuro, but did say that I was having a severe reaction to the topamax. 1 in 1,000 people can get the rare symptoms that I was having, and I needed to stop taking the topamax and call the office first thing in the morning.
It was the most horriable feeling in the world. I was up all night long, and I couldnt sleep at all.
When I was on the 25mgs. I did notice a small change in my heart rate, but it wasnt nothing like what happened last night... and some nights I did notice I had trouble getting to sleep, and Id wake up through out the nights. I had some times where I felt nausus too... but I figured that was typical symptoms. The ones that scared me the most were the cloudy vision, horriable headache, trouble thinking clearly, dizzyness, not being able to walk right.. and my concentration was right clear at all. The nausea had clearly picked up too.
So, Im going to call the office here in a few and let them know what happened. I guess Im back to square one. I'll let you know what they say and where I go from here. We did discuss other medications at my appointment... so I will see if there are others he wants to try me on instead.
