Since starting on keppra oooohh.... about 3 weeks ago, i've been too knackered to go to the gym more than once or maybe twice a week, and also, i've been insanely hungry, so eating loads. And i've still managed to lose 4lb.

My first thought was "WOOHOO!", and then i figured that i should maybe be worried by this.

Any thoughts on this? Anyone with similar experiences? I'm still on Lamictal too, and being titrated up on the Keppra (currently on 750mg/day)

As with many of the AEDs, it varies a lot from person to person -- some folks gain weight on Keppra, but some folks definitely lose weight. Seems like you lucked out (unless you don't need to lose weight, or are undernourished).

hehehe Yup, i certainly need to lose weight. I'd like to think it's all the work i'm putting into the gym though :D

Gone down four dress sizes now, wooop!

Congrats! Maybe all the muscle you've gained from your gym work has upped your metabolism.

I normally gain it pretty fast unless i'm at the gym like every 2 days. I don't know, perhaps you're right. I hope so!

I was on Keppra for 5 years. I gained a lot of weight during that time but am not convinced it was related. I also turned around and lost 50+ pounds with a lot of work while still on keppra.

Now on lamictal for a year and the weight is going back up. I seem to always be hungry. I am not exercising as much due to minor nagging injuries and that is not helping.

Drugs.com lists weight loss as a side effect for Lamictal. No weight issue is listed with Keppra other than loss-of appetite.

Weight loss is also listed as a side effect for Keppra on drugs.com, but in the "unknown frequency" category. But on patient sites, a lot of people have reported it.

I've gained weight while on Lamictal too -- about 15 pounds in a year -- so I'm working hard to try and reverse the trend...

I was down to 195, but am back up to 225 now. I know how bad this is for my overall health, but my appetite is ravenous right now. I must get back into some sort of exercise to replace the basketball I gave up due to age. I am 6'1", so the 195 is a really good weight for me.

Man that would be AWESOME (not dress sizes though)!!! Be safe but relish it!! :)

I just asked my mum about this - i never look at the side effects, i hand it to whoever is around (normally my mum) and they can keep an eye out for it lol. It's a pyschological thing i think. She said that weight gain, weight loss and anorexia are listed on there. Anorexia in this case as opposed to Anorexia Nervosa.

At least i'm not gaining weight, which i'm thankful for. I think that for now i'm not going to worry too much about it. If i was already slim, then perhaps i would, but at the moment it's not like i'm going to fade away or something :yippee:
