Hi everyone! If you don't have a driver's license, what works for you for your id when asked to show it? I ask this because for years I have been getting a state issued ID card but now it is about to expire and I'm thinking about just letting it expire. When I got it the first time, I was still writing checks, etc. and was needing to show my id every week. But, now I don't have to show it but 1 or 2 times a year if that much. It just doesn't seem worth it to cause someone the trouble to take me to get it done when it's not needed no more than that. It's been so long ago, I don't remember what I used to show before I got my first ID card. What works for you today? Is there anything beside a state issued ID card? Thanks for your time!

One might consider a passport or another option is a passport card (not ok for International flights or cruising but it may work for driving to/from Canada/Mexio). If you ever plan on flying it will be better to have a REAL ID conforming id, passport card is nice note that it does not include your address (pro or con depending on your needs at which point state id might be better). Plus if your state requires voting id, may need to check those requirements.

I won't be flying so that won't be a problem plus I vote by absentee ballot so I won't be needing it there either. Another reason I'd rather not renew it is, if I do, I have to take my Birth Certificate, SS card or medicare card, a utility bill or bank statement plus my marriage certificate and I don't remember where it's at! All of this to get a "Secure ID". From what people have been telling me, the wait is several hours so all of it put together, it just doesn't seem worth it if I can get by without it.

Hi KathyJJ.

I always renew my state ID when it runs out that way they have numbers on the ID that nobody else has. Another way I have an ID is at work they take my picture and I have an employee number. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Although I barely write checks, I always renew my state ID. I've had situations arise recently where I happened to need it--and I was making purchases with a credit card!

I always renew my state ID too. There are many times that I'll need some type of ID, like using a credit card or something that you need to be over a certain age to buy, that a picture of yourself needs to be on.

I had to use it today and they scanned it through some type of machine like you'd use for a credit card to make sure it was real.
