It FINALLY looks like we'll have a REAL winter. The snow we had last week (9.5 inches where I live) isn't going anywhere, as temps have remained pretty cold. We even got another inch and a half the next day. It will also be becoming MUCH colder--tonight it will be near or below zero, & tomorrow the high temperature is less than 20 degrees.

First snow for us. The news make such a big deal out of 2” of snow 🙄
Haha yeah, you should see what happens when it snows here! It's like the city shuts down. People start calling in sick for work, schools shut down for snow days... Everyone gets scared as soon as anything sticks, and nobody knows how to drive, despite it being legally required to have snow tires to travel on most highways. I call it the yearly "snow-pocalypse". Then the municipalities just dump huge amounts of salt everywhere to try to melt it, since they don't know how to manage snow properly.

I'm ALWAYS telling my kids that they NEVER saw a REAL winter. Even when I had to get the younger one from school (about 12 years ago) & was talking about weather w/other parents, they agreed that the schools are too quick to close. They recalled how schools would remain open in FAR COLDER/SNOWIER weather when we were growing up.

I grew up in the Canadian prairies, and we never had a snow day or school cancelled due to weather. If it got especially cold or there was a snow storm expected, the principal would just make an announcement telling all the students to make sure we "bundle up" because it was going to get cold out there! haha

Growing up in the 1970's I lived for a few years in Brookings, SD--60 miles north of Sioux Falls. I recall some blizzards when you could only see the roof of the car. Then my family moved to a place that was both colder & snowier--near Duluth, to Superior, WI. My parents moved our family to the Chicago area in the early 1980's, and it WOULD get colder than it does now at that time.

It's in the upper 40's today and sunny but later on the winds will be picking up with gusts up to 50 mph
right through Saturday and then the snow will be coming back also. I just hope we don't lose power.
