Hi. I am seeing a great epileptologist right now, she is excellent, knows her stuff, and spends a lot of time with me (hour to an hour and a half) when I see her. This may be because I just started with her and we are finding a good combo for me.

OK..I have a great boyfriend and we are going to get married he is very supportive and when I marry I will have good benefits, in the meantime he is just very supportive and caring, also paying for alot of my appointments and help with medication (i was offered insurance but it was really bad)

In the past few weeks, I moved from my old apartment as I was alone and having seizures into renting a room from a lady from church. I dont know why, but she found my simple and complex seizures stressful, even faxing for my prescription was a huge deal for her, and the day after I gave her my months rent check she asked me to leave.. and took that money creating a bunch of things to bounce in my account.. creating more stress...worrying about paying that back and getting my meds

RIght now Im bouncing around from friends house having to move my stuff all over again and at the same time work because I dont get sick leave and without work i have nothing until I find a studio for myself. Its stressful and taking a toll on my seizures.

I have followed my med regieme very strictly. However 2 weeks after my last app I had to give an update and I said I was doing good (a lie) because Im afraid she will give up on me. Right now she is away on vacation (though has an emergency number I can call her anytime)

When I go to see her, she will probably see some jerking and may be mad then I have to touch her finger with my finger and follow her finger with my eyes. Unfortunatly when I look up I have some blurred almost double vision ? It seems to be getting a little worse. I am on 400mg (200 at night and 200 in the morning) of lamictal and 0.5mg klonopin at night and 0.5 in the morning...seeing how this combo goes.

Im so afraid of failing. I am scared she will sack me due to not telling the truth and having myself go through all this stress.

I tend to find as the day goes by and I intereact more with people and am around more things... the tingling all over my body gets worse and worse, then the jerking will happen...actually I had a complex partial yesterday where I tore off my t shirt and starting shaking my hair as if something was in it.

I am seeing her on the 8th and hanging in there. I dont want to be a pest, and I am trying stress releif to make it until then... do you think she will get rid of me as a patient ?

I should hope not!! Any Dr. should know that life isn't perfect nor is it predictable. **** does happen, just like life happens, no matter what tomorrow in one form or another comes.

Just tell your Doc whats happening, they are there to help you, not for you to make them happy :) just my :twocents:

First of all remember, you pay your neurologist so it's not for her to sack you. It'd be the other way around if anything.

Secondly I'd imagine many people in the medical profession have to deal with the same fear you have of being sacked (no matter how unfounded) & the fear of telling when something is wrong.

I'd say when you return to your neurologist, she'd appreciate your coming clean & being honest. As well it's really the only way she can address your medical problems.

In the meantime, I don't think it's too big a deal to worry about so don't stress yourself out over something so small. It'll only increase the chances of you having more seizures.

I'm sure that once you explain what's going on in your life, she won't sack you. After all, your going through a lot of stress.

I have to agree with the rest.

You're doc, especially if she's a good one as you say, will understand what's going on with you. Life isn't easy to begin with, and then you have to factor in the complications of the seizures on top of that. If your doc can't understand that, I don't know who would.

Nope, I

don't think she's gonna sack you, and I must say I thoroughly agree with the others. YOU pay HER, so if anything, it would be YOU dumping HER.

You DO have to be honest with her, however, in order to get the best care form her that's possible...or else things just won't work out well....

Take care, and don't stress!!!

Your doctor should understand the pressure and anxiety that led you to fib a little. It's her job to help you find ways to deal with the seizures. Go ahead and tell her what you're worried about and why. Is the blurry vision due the medication? You should definitely tell her about that too.

Best,

Your neurologist is supposed to know when you have a seizure. They document it and take note of any changes and decide of a medication change is necessary.
Write everything down. Your neurologist would most likly be mad at you for not writting things down than if you were to tell her. She could be helping you in a way you may not know of. Its imporatant to tell. I learned the hard way. I would have several seizures and never tell her- I would say "Well they are small, seizure-attempts" and come to find out, they are really short complex partial seizures. Seizures are seizures and that is that. You know?

Please take care and be safe.
(Being silly) Confess everything! LOL :)

Your the boss since your neuro works for you.
You just need to be completely honest with your neuro.
She'll understand if you tell her about whats been going on.
You've been under a lot of stress and that'll trigger your seizures.

Hi there.

I basically agree with the others. But I'm wondering where this fear comes from? Have you been "sacked" before?

I ask these questions because...
Doctors find me a very difficult case, and after awhile, I am usually "passed" to another doctor, and when that doctor gets discouraged, I am "passed off" again. I'm wondering if this has happened to you before.

There is certainly no reason for you to be "sacked" because of anything you've done. And if this is a good epileptologist, she will want to keep you. I have found that epileptologists, in particular, thrive on a challenge and love a compliant patient. Just explain your recent stressors.

Wishing you the best care. -Julie

Thanks all. I have never been sacked before. Yesterday I got a call from her even though she was on vacation as I requested from her receptionist a refill on my klonopin. I guess they figured it out I have been taking 1 extra lately. So thats when she called wondering what was going on. I told her Im following her strict orders and dont want to be a pest before my appointment. I told her I had been taking 1 extra klonopin in the afternoon because as the day goes by and Im around more sensory things, I get the auras (tingling and feeling like Im doing to drool)

She was very good to me, I expressed my concern about failing and being resistant to treatment and as a result her wanting a more easier case. But I feel much better now. Thanks so much for your replies

Oh, and she does think the stress has contributed, and I am going to go back on the brand name of lamictal, this is what I was on before, I have not been doing as well on the generic

Good to know your doctor came through for you. I hopes it's smoother sailing from here on out.

Best,

I think any neurologist that just wants the easier cases will be be quickly unemployed.

Glad things went well. It's good to see how supportive she can be, even when on vacation.

For some reason my neurologist loves my case. I don't know why :)

We live in a small town and he has seen me around and he would come up to me and ask how I'm doing and everything. Very sad he is moving and wont be my doc anymore. But at least I've known my family doc since I was a kid, so I will still be comfortable :D

seizures4ever I've had the same issue I'm a complacted case been passed on from doctor to doctor to doctor ao I understand my epi doc hates a challenge, she made a diagnosis and is sticking with it so I'm making a change and getting a 2nd opinion on the 21st of this month 2012.
