Can spinal meningitis as an infant cause epilepsy? I had it when I was a baby and I just remembered my psychologist said it could play a role in my seizures. She didn't give me much detail though. Does anyone have any ideas about this? Thanks.

I don't know exactly, but I'm always asked if I had meningitis as a child when I see a new neurologist.

Like jemsister, I've been asked by my neuro if I have ever had meningitis, encephalitis, suffered a head injury. I've never had any of these and still have seizures. :ponder:

Here is some info on the subject:

http://professionals.epilepsy.com/page/infectious_consequence.html

In this study, the type of CNS infection and seizure occurrence during the acute phase of CNS infection greatly influenced the risk of subsequent unprovoked seizures.....

I never have, however, a friend of mine has and she doesn't have epilepsy.
