Hello,

I know it has been a while since I posted but it seems like the newer medicine seems to be working lamotrigine (generic 200mg per day) and keppra xr (generic 3000mg which my doctor will take me off of or will try soon) anyway I've been seizure free for a while, but that's off topic.

I was reading that greentea gave benefits, so I asked to get some and I noticed there were some herbs in it so I'm trying to decide if it's safe to drink it even says consult your health provider.

Proprietary blends of herbs 1810mg per bag
indian saraparilla root
organic ginger root
organic licorice root
organic burdock root
organic dandelion root
cardamom seed
juniper black pepper
organic long pepper berry
phellodendron bark
organic rhubarb root
chinese skullcap root
coptis root
fosythia fruit
gardenia fruit
japanese honeysuckie flower
water melon seed

I know that I should get advice from my doctor but I won't be seeing him for a while, so I thought I'd ask here if anybody knew of any of these herbs that increases the chances of getting seizures.

Thanks.

Welcome back notime,

I don't know of any harm that those teas do, I tend to like a lot of them myself.

The only thing to watch for is that it was recently in the news that a lot of teas (especially from China) had higher levels of lead. Many teas contain enough lead to be dangerous for pregnant and nursing women

As far as detox goes, I used to be big on detox until I learned in a biology class that the whole concept of detox via teas or supplements doesn't work.

The 'detox delusion': Health claims 'at best unfounded and at worst dangerous', argues professor

The Detox Delusion: Our Bodies Can Detox Themselves

The evidence supporting detox diets is slim to none, but they’re often touted as holistic and popularized by celebrities small and smaller. Scores of slender starlets can’t be wrong – can they?Beth Reardon, MS, RD, nutritionist for Duke Integrative Medicine, gives us the skinny on a recurring diet craze:

It’s not merely the lure of plummeting pounds that draws people to detox diets. There’s powerful appeal in the promise that these diets will cleanse our body of toxins, observes Reardon. “We are bombarded by our food supply, what’s in it, what’s not. We hear about additivies, preservatives, dioxins, carcinogens; we see horrific pictures on the Internet of something that supposedly came out of a colon; and we’re just overwhelmed. The fear factor is pretty convincing. People are grasping to do what makes sense, and the notion of detoxifying the body sounds right. But there just isn’t good science behind detox diets.

It's not for detoxing or anything, it's just I was worried about these kind of herbs once I realized they were in this sort of tea. I like the taste of it, so I couldn't really find others that I liked it's just I was paranoid once I saw them and didn't know if any of those were linked to a possible increase in seizures.

As a general rule (though not always applicable) what I've noticed is that if something is supposed to increase memory or act as a stimulant (Ginseng, Coffee) then it is more likely to be blamed for causing seizures.

I guess that makes sense since they would act by increasing the firing rate of neurons & make it more likely for neurons to misfire.

Everyone reacts differently to things so I would mark down when you have seizures and how intense they are & when you drink your tea. That's the best way to see if there's a correlation.

Enjoy your teas.
