>>>the gut-brain connection

http://www.health.harvard.edu/healthbeat/the-gut-brain-connection

Have you ever had a “gut-wrenching” experience? Do certain situations make you “feel nauseous”? Have you ever felt “butterflies” in your stomach? We use these expressions for a reason. The gastrointestinal tract is sensitive to emotion. Anger, anxiety, sadness, elation — all of these feelings (and others) can trigger symptoms in the gut.

The brain has a direct effect on the stomach. For example, the very thought of eating can release the stomach’s juices before food gets there. This connection goes both ways. A troubled intestine can send signals to the brain, just as a troubled brain can send signals to the gut. Therefore, a person’s stomach or intestinal distress can be the cause or the product of anxiety, stress, or depression. That’s because the brain and the gastrointestinal (GI) system are intimately connected — so intimately that they should be viewed as one system.<<<

You know you have epilepsy when you look in the mirror a few days after having a grand mal and think "who is that?". Had it on the driveway around some stuff and hurt myself really bad. Busted up my face & had 2 big bruised eyes. Our home insurance agent visited the day after unexpectedly and I told him, "I know this looks like domestic violence but I have Epilepsy." He looked at me in surprise.

I've had the "No he's not hitting me" conversation more than once... I always find it funny. I came from a domestic abuse situation and got away, no one ever commented. Now I am in an amazingly supportive relationship and beat my self up. My twisted sense of humor find that amusing

You see your cousin approaching from the corner of ypur eye with one of those stupid parade light spinny toys and your first reaction is to shield your eyes and be like "woah what is that?!?!" And then your grandma apologizes repeatedly for forgetting and takes it for a bit. Thankfully the little guy was happy with the normal glowstick he got to make up for it!

When you celebrate how long it's been since you've done something. Three years seizure free as of October 26th! We had a miniature party with candy. :woot:

When you have to put on auto password remember for everything that you join,or it's forgotten by the next day.

So true! This is why I actually have a file on my desktop that says "Hey, Idiot! YOUR PASSWORDS!":embarrassed:

Every month, when paying my student loan or credit card online, I have to reset the user name and password. It’s just easier that way… I’m sick of them shutting down my account… god forbid you screw up a few logins.

You know your 16-year-old daughter has epilepsy when she decides to miss the fireworks display all her friends are going to because she a party tomorrow night and going to two things last weekend was just too, too much :(

You know you have epilepsy when you hit on a hot middle-aged nurse in your post-seizure haze. Then once rejected, you ask if she has a daughter. LOL

Does writing a love letter to your bestfriend's older brother who is engaged and you've never been interested in while in a pre-seizure state count? It was sappy, gooey and just overly lovey drek that I found in a notebook the day after I had four seizures in one day. They've never let me live it down.

Secret, hidden feelings? lol

I find it best to laugh about these crazy things so that I don't get caught up in the morbidity of it all.

i told me gf i loved her once when she bought me a burger because i was had a seizure because my blood sugar got to low.
like lay my head in her lap and laid in on thick.

That is epic. My girlfriend is like that. I wish everyone could have such great support :)

Ha ha! Amazing how much "innocent" stuff in our ordinary environment can trigger those photsensitive seizures.

I'm hoping that by this time tomorrow we'll be celebrating 3 DAYS without a seizure - but, sadly, no candy (Keto diet)

When I'm in keto, I insist on cheese dip for celebrations. Well, I insist on it everyday, but the kind I make costs 20 bucks lol.
