Has anyone ever had a 48 ambulatory EEG? I've been scheduled for one: I'll be wired up in a neuro office, go home for two days, then return to the office.

I've had epilepsy for a few years but never had or heard of this type of test. Is it new? Is it scary? Did it provide any information about your brain activity? I would so appreciate any experiences you could share. Thanks in advance.

They're a bit of a pain in the butt because you're connected to the leads and have to carry around a portable EEG machine, but they're not too bad. At least you're not stuck in a bed (like in a veeg) lol. When I had mine done it showed how many nocturnal seizures I was having and it also showed where my seizure focus was (medial posterior right temporal lobe) so it was very beneficial to me. Good luck with your EEG :) I hope it gives your doctor good info.

Was your treatment changed as a result of the EEG findings? Different meds? Surgery? Something else?

Also, did the leads interfere with your sleeping? Did the leads make noises or cramp your head? Were you able to do normal activities at home?

Yeah, my case was transferred to an epileptologist and neurosurgeon at a university hospital for consideration of a VNS or surgery. The epileptologist was able to get my seizures under control before that happened, though. It interfered with my sleeping a bit because I was concerned about pulling the leads out when I tossed and turned. But, your head is wrapped up with gauze and the leads are glued pretty good. The leads didn't make any noise at all and I was able to continue with normal activities at home. The bag comes with a shoulder strap (similar to a purse) so it allows free movement of your arms.

72 hour for me.

I had video done as well due to my sleep behavior. At first review, everything appeared "normal", but after I suggested a second look, the video was reviewed and the observed sleep behavior appeared to be a simple-partial that had no effect on the EEG. In fact, the EEG showed me to be awake. After viewing that, I started taking Vimpat and after some adjusting, I'm doing great.

Nothing to worry about and some good can easily come from it. Just a pain in the ass to have all that strapped to you.
