I haven't been able to take flu shot for years (allergic). My husband always takes shot hoping not to bring the flu home to me. I can't take anti virals either. This year we are hearing the flu vaccine is only about 10% effective. I'm more concerned because we're both seniors. Has anyone tried any remedy or Homeopathic treatment that helped prevent flu or treat it once you get it?
Thanks.

Hi Emee,

One thing I do is drink a lot of tea hot or cold and I also take zinc 50 mg. twice a day along with vitamin C and it helps a lot. If you want to get rid of a cold the old fashion way do what my Grandma did and that was drink a shot of moonshine before you go to bed and then pile up the blankets on your bed and sweat it out. She used moonshine only for medicine and she lived to be 83 yrs. old. Wishing you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue

Focus on protecting yourself from getting the flu: wash your hands frequently especially after being in public places, wash surfaces in your home such as door handles and toilet/sink handles, and avoid contact with those who have the flu. Doctors' offices are infamous for harbouring germs - don't read the magazines they have (think of all the germy hands that have touched them), and if someone near you is obviously sick change your seat or even tell the reception desk that you are going to wait in the hall for the doctor and to please come get you when the doctor is ready for you. Enclosed places like airplanes, buses and personal vehicles also can be issues: don't be afraid to use a facemask that covers your nose and mouth (your doctor or pharmacist can help you choose an appropriate one) when you're particularly concerned. Check into the pneumonia vaccine to see if you can safely get this; while pneumonia isn't the flu of course, the pneumonia vaccine is commonly recommended for seniors and other potentially vulnerable people.

I always keep pocket packs of antibacterial wipes &/or a small bottle of the liquid sanitizer with me.
"Tea" made with a small piece of fresh ginger & spoonful of honey can help a cough. Gargling w/warm water that has some salt mixed in it can ease the pain of a sore throat.

I'm in my sixties and have never had a flu jab in my life, never had flu either. I've known people have the jab and get ill with it so I never chance it. There are so many jabs against so many ills these days that you wonder if some are really necessary or just a way for drug companies to cash in on our fears.
