Well, I had a seizure (tonic clonic) when my son was 2.5weeks old. I was holding him as I was about to give him a bottle. I was not aware of anything during the seizure unlike all others were i've gone into a tonic clonic seizure yet still been able to hear conversations, or at least parts of them. Anyway with this particular seizure I didn't remember anything when I woke up. The paramedics were there and said 'you are lucky you didn't drop the baby, you must have known to hold onto him'. I was very confused and when asked what day it was I became very upset because I didn't know but then they asked if I knew the prime minister's name and I got excited and screamed out 'John Howard' - that one I knew LOL.
So, to make a long story at least a little shorter do you think that in all that confusion and loss of consciousness that I could have possibly have 'known to hold onto him?' That was my scariest seizure ever because it worried me thinking about what could have happened - not to me but to my son. Mind you he is 7.5years old now and perfectly fine. He's a bit of a rough nut so we think that perhaps being thrown around a bit turned him into a daredevil lol j/k but I really believe God was watching over him that night.

Yes, I do think the brain "knows" some things even unconsciously, and the body responds accordingly. Of course it can be hard to predict, so I'm not sure you could rely on it "knowing" every time.

It's not quite the same thing, but I had a t-c seizure once right AFTER going for a long long swim by myself. I got out of the water and was on the dock when I had the seizure. I think my body "waited" until I was safely out of the water before seizing.

Hi, Trinity,

I think our brains DO know, even when we are checked out. If you are afraid of it happening again, fix the bottle first, roll the bassinet over to the chair/couch, and either hold him in the bassinett or just put him into your lap after you've sat down. Same for clothing and diaper changes. Falling from a chair is a lot closer trip than falling from a standing position (your standing position, not his!) It doesn't mean you have to be paranoid, just use a method here and there to reduce the risk. :)

Babies bounce. It's why they call them "bouncing baby boys." No worries. But you may watch him to see if he has any signs of shaken baby syndrome, just in case.

You are a GREAT mom to have held on to him that way. :)

I got a bit worried when you said John Howard was the Prime Minister, then I kept reading and saw this happened over 7 years ago Phew... hahahahaha :roflmao:
