I think it refers to starting a med and everything is going fine, and then later side effects kick in when it goes to a certain dose.

Edit - this doesn't happen all the time, just occasionally with some people

anti-epileptic drugs are the drugs that can help stop or lessen epileptic seizures (such as keppra), often called anti-convulsant drugs.

All of them are associated with side-effects but everyone reacts differently to them. Some people get extreme side-effects on certain meds, others get no side-effects on the same meds.

Is that what it ment?

Wierd,i'm sure i read in some post someone that gave an example stating and reffering to keppra that the first month is like a miracle no seizures whatsoever but than later the seizures can return and called it the honemoon phase so i wanted to clerify if that's what it means....

So when it comes to side effects there can be people who will take topamax or zonegran but won't experience ANY congnitive effects?? I tought it something that isn't avoidable since it effects the area of the brain which involves thinking and memory

Well, like Eric said, all meds can affect everyone differently. For example some people have problems with Keppra, whereas I barely get any side effects from it. It's the same for all medications. There can be a lot of trial and error sometimes to find the right ones.

Did your fatigue subsided over time?

How about some wierd sensation in the hands, did you ever felt something like that?

I think pretty much the only side effects I personally get from Keppra are tiredness (this can be a common side with most AEDs) and occasionally the odd burst of short temper, but its not too bad. The tiredness and anger were worse when I started it, but did subside slightly over time.

I don't know about Topamax and Zonegran but, since being on Lamictal I feel 'Dumber' I guess you could say. Not 100% sure if that's the Lamictal or just getting older though.
A lot of people in this forum seem to have tiredness and memory problems from meds, others don't. The medication affects everybody differently.

All the symptoms people call "side effects" of medication, I had before starting the medication. So I can't blame the medication. The only one which may be medication-induced is constant tiredness and being unable to get out of bed at my usual hour.

Otherwise, cognitive issues: poor memory, lapses in concentration, losing track of time; and other sensations such as tingling/numbness - I already had those, so they're not medication side effects for me.

I think I hit the jackpot, in that I don't seem to have any negative side-effects. *touch wood* That said, my e is far from under control.

Im only on 2500mgs of Keppra, and I dont think tiredness is something Im dealing with now. If anything, there are some nights I cant get to sleep all that good. But its been better since getting off the Lamictal.

Now as for the weird sensations in my hands, and my feet, I get that all the time. Especially during my "relaxing" times... in the evenings and night time.

My different med combos have all produced diff side effects-trileptal causing massive headaches last year but now that weve added the zonergran the headaches are gone and so far only one seizure. No appetite and food literally makes me sick like i cant force it down my throat and I sure have gotten dumber.my epi just wants the seizures GONE and then we will fine tune the meds later. So far everything I tried seems to give me a rash(lamictal) or wears off after about 4 months so thats what i thought honeymoon stage was.
